View Full Version : Are some AR lowers currently importable?

I've been reading through the threads here and it sounds like some real AR lowers are currently not "listed" by the CA DOJ and can be imported into the state.

I have three questions. I'm really looking for the "dummies" guide to getting one.

1) Where can you purchase one?

2) What FFL will let you transfer one in the Bay Area

3) What is the risk? Is it just loosing out on $200 if the DOJ fix the law so you cannot build on them?

If this is the case, then I'm more than willing to roll the dice.

Try reading other posts around here to answer some of your questions. Search is your friend. You'll most likely have to do your own homework on finding any deals.

Also at the top of the page on the blue tool bar there is the California AR/AK "series" assault weapon FAQ. Click on that and it will explain some of your questions.

Admin gives good advice. I know all this is a lot to take in but it will make sure you understand why it is legal and what steps you can take to keep yourself legal. Keeping it legal and you from committing a felony is paramount. If you haven't already, start here:

Admin, Thanks for pointing me to the link on the top blue bar. I'd not seen it - only the stickies.

As I indicated in my question, this is just what I've done but I've not seen a concise "how to" anywhere. The link on the blue bar has given me the background - you can make a CA legal rifle that you can convert back into a real AR easily when you leave the state.

I have indeed used the search feature quite heavily. I just cannot quite connect the dots of supplier to friendly FFL. I think a response to these questions would be of benefit to me an to other readers on this board.

Forgive me if I sounds a little cranky, but I've spent a lot of time reading posts on this board trying to put this information together. I seen a lot of questions followed by "use the serach button" as answers. Sometimes this is quite justified.

In this case, I've really tried searching so I don't appreciat the generic "search is your friend" response.

Technical Ted and Gnote, you just gave me the key. I'd not found the .223 subforum of legal issues, I'd only been looking and searching in the rifle forums. Thank you for this pointer.

It would really help if the FAQ on .223 rifles in CA pointed to this subforum and to the FAQ on the top bar.

I'm sorry if I appeared rude, but I hope you understand why I was getting fustrated. The .223 subforum is indeed a mine of information!
