Under the heading of: Putting your money where your mouth is...

http://www.intrade.com/jsp/intrade/common/c_cd.jsp?conDetailID=677308

(If the link doesn't work then click Legal -> Gun Control on the LHS of the page.)

I searched and it looks like folks have posted about intrade before but I don't see anything pointing to the AWB trade. I looked but I don't see anything about "Heller", "Palmer", "McDonald", etc.. Would be neat to see if we could get them to post one on "McDonald" and start laying some money against our friends on the other side...

As far as I can tell from briefly looking over their site, it appears to be nothing more than a gambling book masquerading as a futures trading market, with some hand-waving about providing predictive information in a weak attempt to feign legitimacy.

Ya' know... it could be. Not my intention to bring that sort of tripe in here... I skimmed it while procrastinating from doing real work today. -gcrtkd

it's "over the counter derivatives".

Pure, unregulated, free-market capitalism, dontcha know!!

Of course, I don't think that gambling should be illegal in the first place.

And InTrade seems to have a better-than-random-chance track record at predicting outcomes of stuff.

Well, sure. On the gripping hand, it's a futures trading market that has visibility and influence in notable mainstream channels (NYT (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=intrade+site:nytimes.com&aq=f&aql=&aqi=&oq=))(WSJ (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=intrade+site:wsj.com&aq=f&aql=&aqi=&oq=))(LAT (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=intrade+site:latimes.com&aq=f&aql=&aqi=&oq=)). Compare and contrast : Delphi Method (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphi_method); consider the potential for influencing mainstream media perception through the questions presented. Intrade's market correctly predicted the Brown win in Mass on Sunday. I had no idea there was an AWB contract! Talk about a great way to take money from morons.
