My buddy's wife works as a dispatcher for the Santa Monica PD...This video apparently got the attention of some Higher Ups at the department...

Here is the response from one of the Officers:

Interesting video. We may get calls about this at some point. If so, send out an officer.

The man being interviewed, looked good and spoke well. That being said
I'm not sure the general public is going to see this in a favorable light.
The other thing that is problematic-- when you are walking around-- is that
1000' requirement for the schools. If the 1000' is "as the crow flies" ie. a straight line,( I don't know the legal definition) you'd
have to be insane to be in any urban walking around.Pete

That report first ran back in November, discussed in this thread (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=241466).

The 1000' distance for school zones is measured from the edges of school grounds. That makes it difficult to map them out or know precisely where the boundaries are, unless you first know precisely where the school property lines are. That was discussed here (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=258639).

The point is this wouldn't be happening if CA allowed CCW. Then the matter of privacy comes into play. The gentleman in the video that was the UOCarrier was good up until the point he said carrying guns would inspire people to not be disrespectful to him.

Santa Monica PD falsely arrested a UOCer outside Trader Joes a few years ago. So I hope they are up to speed but since it wasn't last week the institutional memory has has likely faded.
