Since Women's Pistol III is Feb. 20, 2010, Roy has graciously agreed to teach a combined Women's Pistol I and II this Saturday January 16th, at 10:00 am to get those of you who want to get up to speed, or get some extra practice in before class in February. You need your own equipment for Pistol III. Here's the blurb:

Pistol III Class.
$10.00 for women who have completed the Pistol II class, and passed the shooting test, or women who have had similar shooting experience (P.O.S.T., formal shooting school, etc). This class picks up where the Pistol II class left off. You MUST bring your own pistol, ammunition, and holster on a sturdy belt (dummy ammunition would be nice, but is not required). Learn how to draw a pistol from a holster. We will be dry practicing the 5 point draw stroke. Learn how to perform a tactical reload, a speed reload, and malfunction clearance drills.

Note: Currently there is no Pistol IV class scheduled. If there is enough interest (and Pistol III graduates), we may add it.

If you want to get in on the ground floor, or get your spouse/gf/co-worker out shooting in a non-threatening opportunity, there will be plenty of NRA certified trainers available to get them acquainted to firearms.

Ammo, eyes, ears, and guns provided FREE of charge.

We go from the basics (Pistol I) through malfunction drills, 5 count draw, and basic tactics through our shoothouse (Pistol IV).

Hope to see you all at least once during 2010.

Train hard, fight easy.

Sounds like fun! Do we have to register or just show up?

Why are there so many Women's classes? I dont want to have to wait until July.....

OliveCookieMonsta, all you have to do is show up. We'll take care of the gear, ammo, targets, etc. We just want everyone to have a great time and learn how to safely shoot in a friendly atmosphere.

matrix056, while the program is designed to get more women involved (paid in part by an FNRA grant), there are on occasion men who 'slip' into the classes.

And its not uncommon for a spouse or two to hit the rifle range while the class is in session. People often like to learn from someone other than their spouse/significant other where there might be a natural competition (or unwanted criticism). It works for us and we've seen our program grow steadily over the last few years.

Feel free to bring your own firearm. There's always an opportunity to use your own. We may ask in the beginning that you use a club handgun but its common for ladies to use their own.

Often, ladies bring a new handgun, or one they've borrowed. Its not uncommon for someone say comfortable with revolvers (or a pistol with an integrated safety), to ask for assistance in the double action category.

BTW - In case of rain, we hold the class inside on the indoor range. Outdoor pistol range is adjacent and is covered. Dress comfortable, but consider temperature.

OliveCookieMonsta - You're welcome. Glad you had a good time. I hope you picked up some tips and got some ideas on equipment for Pistol 3. Though i was unable to help yesterday, i did see the class (I was entertaining the male contingent of my wife's baby shower on the rifle range). It certainly looked like people were having fun.

I will definitely be helping for pistol 3 in February. Looking forward to it.
