I'm moving to Vegas at the end of this month so I will be getting my CCW there ASAP. I have a Kahr CW9 and want to get a .40 that is compact, but not as small as the Glock 27.

So...

If you were to choose between the three, would you go with a Springfield XD (XDm is available in NV), Smith & Wesson M & P or the compact Glock .40 (don't know the model number).

Every gun shop employee I've talked to has said GLOCK. I've fired all three and like all three.

Thanks!

I'd pick the XDm from your options. Given freedom to chose I'd likely not pick any of those three though.

4 for the XDm and 1 for the Glock. I love the feel, fire control, sights, ease of maintenance, etc. of the XDm.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Glock 27 or 23

I do not like the high barrel axis of the XD nor the notchy trigger.

The M&P does not fit my hands with any comfort.

You may also want to consider a Commander 1911

Not one of your choices, but my first choice would be Sig 229 Elite.

XDm.............then again..........Taurus Judge
Judge is popular simply because we can't have one... .45LC is a decent round, but the capacity is more limited than a California 9mm or any 1911.
.410 is worthless for PD.

Of the 3 I would choose the XDm, for CCW I would not just look at the guns performance. Comfort, weight, and ergo's will make a big difference in the 100+ degree weather in Vegas. A solid metal Sig will retain more heat and weigh you down. Personally I would choose an HK USPcompact 40. It has a decocker for when your out of danger and in your car, its DA/SA in case you have to quick draw and don't have time to rack the slide. It has a manual safety so you dont blow your foot off drawing your gun. The downside is that the HK is soo dang expensive. XDm, Glock, SWMP...in that order :)

Hope you realize that in NV you can buy all 3 handguns & walk out of the store in 10 minutes after an instant background check. So if you like all 3, get all three.:D

I would like to know why so many picked the XDM over the Glock? Specifics please. Is this bandwagon BS or something I need to know? If you just like the grip better than no need to respond...Heard it all before...

Glock all the way!!! The XDm trigger is horrid. I had a chance to shoot one and could not believe how gritty it was. The Smith M&P has a decent trigger but feels weird in my hand. Glocks are just right.

The XDm has an adjustable grip, it has a chambered round indicator as well as a cocked indicator, the Glock does not. The only way to uncock a Glock or Glock Variant (XD) is to clear the chamber and pull the trigger. Try that in your car at night time...I've spent many a night looking for that loose round. If I was going into combat then I would choose the Glock hands down, but this is CCW. I agree the XD trigger and flashy looks don't appeal to me, but in real life you will encounter a lot of "false alarms" or "fight or flight" situations where that extra safety helps.

All three of those guns are reliable enough for service use, and offer similar things. For me, it would come down to which one I liked shooting the best and which one I shot the best. Get out and try them all for at least 100 rounds each!

If it were me, I'd choose the Glock.

I routinely carry a G19, and I love it. The G23 is just as good.

Blade, glocks all have loaded chamber indicators. And as far as decocking, keep your boogerhook off the bangstick and everything will be fine.

If I moved to Nevada I would get a HK P30S.

I like the XDm too.

I have the glock 23. Nice pistol. However, I will trade that for the xdm in a heartbeat.

Hmm, interesting we're all in California for the most part, that means most of us never held or fired an XDm or XDm 3.8 yet most you guys go for the XDm.
 Must be that cool gun I can't have factor

Oh yes we all know how knowledgable gun shop employees are. Are you out of your ever lovin' mind? Find some one to sell that kahr to. there are a lot of compact guns out there. Personally I have a witness .45 compact. Real punch in a small package and a colt "official police" .38 with a 3" barrel, an ever reliable revolver.

Asking us which gun to buy is like asking us which girl to marry, or which underware to buy, or which heart surgeon to use. (Even I, being all knowing and all seeing can answer only one, tighty whiteys)

This is a question best left answered by YOU.

Find the one that floats your boat and buy it, if you make a mistake, man up, sell it and buy another.
