That's not a good idea.

But it is not an AR-15 series. It's an AR-10 series

Per CA DOJ documentation.

you can try to argue that, but the AR-15 series list you linked to specifically lists the Armalite AR-10 within it, so it appears that they consider an AR-10 to be part ofthe AR-15 series.

And if you read the regulations, it is listed as the following.

5499. California Penal Code Section 12276(e) Assault Weapons List.

(a) Rifles
American Arms AK-C 47
American Arms AK-F 39
American Arms AK-F 47
American Arms AK-Y 39
American Spirit USA Model
Armalite AR 10 (all)
Armalite Golden Eagle
Armalite M15 (all)
Arsenal SLG (all)
Arsenal SLR (all)
B-West AK-47 (all)
Bushmaster XM15 (all)
Colt Law Enforcement (6920)
Colt Match Target (all)
Colt Sporter (all)
Dalphon B.F.D.
DPMS Panther (all)
...
Knights RAS (all)
Knights SR-15 (all)
Knights SR-25 (all)
do you want to argue that a DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 is not on the above listing since it is not an "AR-15", when at least two other "AR-10-type" firearms are specifically listed inthe same list?

There are off-list AR10-pattern receivers available, why not use one of them and not have to worry about if an LR-308 that is marked DPMS Panther is or isn't on the list (which it is)?

1. Armalite AR-10 is also listed
2. I really wouldn't want to be the test case
3. If it's def. legal, why don't I see them on the range
4. If you really believe it's legal, you're still going to have a hard time with an FFL
5. There are so many other DPMS .308 compatible lowers available

Make life simple for yourself.

1 - Order a DPMS compatible lower from a company like Iron Ridge Arms (I have one and it's phenomenal).
2 - Order a DPMS LPK and install on above lower and make it CA legal to your liking (i.e. bullet button vs. stock)
3 - Buy a DPMS LR-308 upper. Push two pins and go.

I saw your inquiry about the LR308. Having looked into them extensively, I offer the following advice:

The Fulton Armory Titan .308 lower is "made" by DPMS and is identical to the LR308, albeit with a different manufactuer and model engraved on it. CMMG also makes a .308 lower which is fully compatible with the DPMS .308 uppers. Thus, if you want an LR308, you have the choice of at least two off list lowers which will get you to the finish line without the hassle of a DPMS-branded receiver.

The following are a couple other tips to keep in mind:

1) The DPMS LR308 lower parts kit is identical to an AR15 LPK with the exception of three small parts (two are the larger takedown and pivot pins; the third is the bolt catch screw--AR15's use a roll pin). Those small parts can be ordered for about $25. DPMS (and a lot of vendors) used to charge exorbitant markups for an LR308 LPK ($130 for the 308 LPK vs. $60 for the AR15 LPK). They've since come down in price but there may still be some vendors out there with unfavorable prices on that.

2) The Titan/DPMS lower is not cut the same around the interior of the FCG. The result is that certain drop in match trigger systems will not fit. I know that the Timney AR15 trigger system will not fit in a Titan lower, at least of the vintage from two years ago.

I posed this question to CMMG at the SHOT Show. They said that they didn't know whether a Timney trigger (or other AR15 trigger systems) would fit into their .308 receivers. The CCMG guy said that he would look into it. He also said that, if their .308 lower wasn't cut to fit AR15 triggers, then they would change their cuts to fit them in the future. I haven't followed up yet with CMMG to get an answer on this.

I spoke with Chip McCormick about his drop in match triggers. He believed that his triggers will work in DPMS LR308s, and therefore Titans. He said that he personally installed 200 of his triggers in an order of DPMS LR308s for a law enforcement agency order. I ordered a Chip McCormick trigger but it hasn't arrived yet so I cannot confirm yet whether they fit a Titan/DPMS.

UPDATE on my last post:

Chip McCormick AR15 drop in match triggers DO fit in Fulton Armory Titan .308 lowers.
