View Full Version : Remove rear sight to fit scope?

I have a Ruger MkIII Hunter and wish to mount a Leupold 2.5-8x32mm handgun scope to it. I have a set of Bsquare rings that put the scope a little too low, so it bumps the rear sight. My choices are remove the rear sight while using the gun with the scope, or get a pair of taller rings.

I guess it's not the end of the world if I remove the sight and have to readjust it later when I want to use it again. But I'd rather not have to mess with it.

My intention is not to make this a permanently scoped gun, but rather to scope it temporarily to characterize it with various ammo. Once I find what it groups best with, I intend to go back to shooting open sights because that is what I enjoy.

What would you do?

Actually the rear sight is a little screwy since the white line is just slightly misaligned with the V notch. Maybe I should just order a new one from Ruger, and take this one off for a while why I do the scope experiments. Then reinstall the new one and keep it on once adjusted.

Oh the fun of it all!
