View Full Version : It's official, just ordered a Glock 20!

Just ordered my first 10mm, a Glock 20 . Debated quite a bit between this and the 21, but ended up with the 10mm since this will be a woods gun. With ammo pricing about the same with 45 and 10 in terms of hollow points, and the 10 being better for 4 legged creatures, I figured what the heck. My G19 already got more range time than my 45 did for the past year, so I dumped my 45's for a 10. Any advice from my soon to be fellow 10mm shooters? Any upgrades like a heavier recoil spring? Leave it stock? I'm going to be ordering some DoubleTap: 10mm 230gr. WFNGC Hardcast, 10mm 200gr. Controlled Exp. JHP, 10mm 200gr WFNGC Hardcast, 10mm 200gr FMJ-FP. Sound like a good first 200 rounds?

Welcome to 10's! I have a 20C. The only thing I've changed is the recoil guide rod & spring. I went with a Wolff steel rod and spring in the stock weight rating. Buy more mags.

I would NOT run cast boolits out of a factory barrel. Just my .02 on the matter. Moly coated, plated or FMJ is your best bet.

Anyone try a G21sf with a 10mm conversion barrel? Get the best of both worlds.

I run a 22lb recoil spring mostly because I am loading much hotter than factory and it keeps my brass from flying 20+ feet away. I also have a 6" ported Lone Wolf barrel in it and shoot a lot of lead for plinking.

I turned my only G21 into a G20L:

The barrel is a factory G20 six-inch one:

Maybe I'll make the switch to 10mm someday. For now I'll stick with the 9mm. :)

I love my 9mm G19. It's the HD and range gun. 9mm doesn't do much for you in the woods, though ;-)

I just spoke with Double Tap. They recommend a stainless guide rod and 20 lb recoil spring. Is this necessary? If so, ISMI captured or Wolff uncaptured?

I had bad luck with my Wolf guide rod and springs. Constant failure to feeds. I switched back to the factory spring and that solved the problem. Bummer because the brass makes it into orbit with the factory sprimg. If you want to try mine I have 20#, 22# new Wolf springs and a steel guid rod I will sell. Sammy

How much is ammo for a 10mm? Is it more expensive than 9mm and 40?

hill billy

Quite a bit more expensive if shooting factory stuff.

It's about on par w/ 45 right now. Practice ammo is a bit more and harder to come by, although I can't remember the last time I saw 45 in any store in numerous states.

Congrats!
The only mods I've done to my Gen II G20 include adding Trijicon sights and a Glock 3.5# disconnector.
Enjoy your new purchase!

Sights are a consideration for me, too. I like the Glock fixed sights a lot. I don't like 3 dot night sights, and much prefer the dot the i sights. Too bad Ameriglo doesn't make something like this. I'm still on the edge about trying the standard dot XS sights.

Congrats! Got my G20SF last week. Ordering ammo and it's expensive. I'm going consider reloading to save money. This will be my hiking / camping gun too.

If you reload then get a 9x25 Dillon barrel (10mm necked to 9mm). Heck of a round.

be aware about just straight conversion barrels if you go g21 to g20. the g21 slide was lightened to cycle the 45 acp round. the stock g20 slide is heavier and thus better suited to a constant diet of full power loads. get the gun digest book by patrick sweeney "glock" it goes into detail about the subject.

Very cool i am going to be picking up one soon here. What did it end up costing you? I am a little shy to have a gun shipped, was the process hard at all?

Ammunitiontogo.com has some American Eagle 10mm plinking ammo in stock!

My 5 boxes just arrived today -- going to buy more!

Got it through Gallery of Guns, shipped to Sharpshooters in Torrance. Everything went very smooth and the price was right. Don't worry about shipping guns, as long as you have a good shipper and FFL it'll be fine. There's quite a bit of info about good places to buy if you search.

Did the paperwork today. T-minus 10 days and counting :(

Dang! $23 for shipping on 5 boxes? My last order through them wasn't that bad! I'm sticking to Double Tap. I even looked at Georgia arms, and the shipping through them brought the price up to Double Tap.

I put more rounds through my Glock 20L this evening. The more I shoot it, the more I like it.

Wait a minute! That's no Glock 20! Didn't that start life as a 21?

lunde
01-13-2010, 6:56 PM
Well, the G20 and G21 share the same frame, and only their slides and barrels differ. Because the slide is an aftermarket G20L one, and the barrel is a factory six-inch version, technically it is a G20. :D

Unless you're completely stuck on having sights where you dot the "i", check out the Ameriglo Operator or Pro sights without the tritium in the rear sight. I put a set on my G20SF that has tritium in the front sight only. I really like this set-up. Ameriglo is great to deal with.

For the San Diego folks.

There is a firearms auction in Spring Valley on the 21st. Mostly a pile of Mossberg 500s and Smith 38s. And a metric buttload of 38 Special. A security company must have gone out of business.

However item 56 is a Glock 20, no mags included. Good luck.

Thanks to Lorax3 for the heads up. Search for his thread for the information on time and place.
