I either heard it somewhere or read somewhere that after your dros a long gun the doj only keeps the paperwork for 14 days & then gets rid of it & the ffl dealer is the only one that really keeps a copy of the transaction. Is this true? If so, could you post the link to doj's website with the info?

There is no longer any paperwork as it is electronically submitted, but I have heard, long in the past, that the DROS forms have to be destroyed after 14 days, but that does not prevent them from copying the information, as they do with handguns, even though I have heard that handgun registration is illegal in CA.

DROS on a long gun should not have a serial # , only handgun serial #'s are required on the form, correct

Even if they did keep the information, I believe all the DOJ knows is that it is a rifle and what the actions are. I don't think make, model, or serial are even recorded. Handguns have serial #s, make, model, and actions recorded.

Correct, no long gun serial on dros. Serial numbers will be on 4473 but that stays with the FFL.

I have no links, I am just telling you as a gun dealer who has sold thousands of guns. When I run a long gun DROS, I do not submit any information about the type of firearms you are purchasing other than the number of long guns. The only way for them to discover specifically what long gun you purchased is by calling me, coming by and looking at my 4473s, looking at my bound book, or tapping into my point of sale software in true government conspiracy fashion.

Well if we're going the conspiracy route, I use E-4473 and if you want to see some real conspiracy theories, google E-4473 database. :D
