I have a 226 9mm Sig that was humming along great 'til I had a case head separation from a reloaded round. Now it jams after the first round is fired and fails to feed any subsequent rounds. Is this an extractor problem? Can anyone recommend a 'smith in the San Diego area. Also, I am going to install regular iron sights on the Sig. My choices are front sights #5 and #7; rear sights #7 and #10What are the best choices if I am trying to zero for 10 yards? Thanks everyone and happy shooting in 2010!!

Have you tried other mags.
When the case separated and jammed the next round it may have damaged the feedlips on the mag...

Yes, the casing(cylindrical portion) came out easily and yes, I have tried another mag with the same results. Thanks.

I think 226s come with both front and rear #8 sights.

8F 8R is factory for the 9mm.

If I was closer I would say bring it over, but Michigan is a touch far.

Without looking at it , I would say something like what happened could make many things suspect.

Where in San Diego are you? I know my way around the P series fairly well. I would recommend you clean the chamber and extractor. Make sure the hook is still intact.

Also, you'd have to see where you were actually printing at 10 yards to determine what sights numbers you needed. As others have mentioned, factory is 8-8 (front, rear) but I personally know people with 6-8, or 8-9 (like mine) that came that way from the factory. There was a chart somewhere online that showed what numbers you wanted if you wanted to adjust the the POI. I cant remember if it was for 10, 15 or 25 yards but you should consider all this before purchasing the sights.

the sight numbers rise the POI 1" at 25 yards for each numerical increase

I will clean the bore and chamber. The extractor hook is intact as far as I can see. Voo, I am in the Mira Mesa area so if I can't make it go, do you mind taking a look at it?? Thanks, D

OP- Why are you shooting reloads in your SIG? Not for me.

try it with different ammo, sounds like it is short stroking. check your brass for "frosting", a sign the chamber is rough and slowing down extraction.

Roger that Voo. Thanks. I was shooting reloads purchased at the gunshow cause I had 'em so I thought I would "smoke" them. But I guess they ended smoking me! =)
