Just a heads up for those of you who know about these pistols...

Dunn's Sporting Goods (http://www.shopdunns.com/products/777/steyr_m_a1_pistol_great_price/) is the only place I have found that will ship these pistols to us here in California.

I just picked up another one for the wife and was told by Lauren Dunn that they only have a 2 or 3 9mm left! The only bad part is they come with 12 round mags and they will not ship them to us in California. But for $399.00 + $25.00 for shipping I am not that concerned about 2 mags (stocked up a long time ago when CDNN has them for $12.00).

So for those of you in the know, the time to act is now.
Regards,
Mike

Interesting design, I'm not doubting its performance or quality but I'm not so sure if I'm a fan of the style.

Shot one once, and you will see the difference immediately.
Best ergo's of any semi auto pistol I have ever shot.
YMMV of course, but I have changed over quite a few glockOholics.

Not to mention being the easiest pistol to clean I have ever shot. Just pull out the trigger group, spray down with brake cleaner, wipe down, re-spray with clp, re-insert and good to go. I love mine. Bummer Steyr gave up on the US market with em. Talk about your half-hearted efforts though...

I used to make fun of my Mom's in 9mm (she uses it as her CCW piece). Then I saw her shoot the thing and feel the ergonomics. Cool gun, but even uglier than a Glock.

I have one of the 2004 transitional M9s. M9 slide, on a M9-A1 frame with rail, but with the M9 trigger guard manual safety. A combination of the best features from both models.

The Steyr M's are a great gun with a cult following. Since no more will be imported for the foreseeable future since Steyr's announcement in Jan 2009, they WILL be worth more than the $399 Dunn's is asking for them.

What's with all the "ugly" comments? Beauty is in the eye of beholder. I for one think M-A1 is the best looking polymer pistol out there.

I love the way this gun looks but MY gun was the worst performing polymer auto i owned. Absolutely horrible. First it was ejection problems, then double feeds, then slide locking open issues. After the third time back to the factory (and 3 or four extra mags from steyr as a whoops) i gave up on it and sold it on gunbroker. Steyr did take care of the issues each time, but there are no parts in the US so it took forever to get it repaired and sent back. Its an interesting design and ergonomically superior to anything else i have held or fired but ran like pure shiz. The sights are an interesting concept as well. Bummer because i loved the feel of that gun and recoil even with hot 40's was mild.

I've seen a LOT of Steyr's and of all the people in my circle of gun nuts, when the Steyr name comes up, they all point to me.

Ok, what's the difference between the S-A1 and M-A1? I mean other than the forward safety and the grip texture...

To me, the pic looks like a M9-A1 with the early saftey.

The successor of the STEYR PISTOL S now available in the new version: STEYR PISTOL S-A1

An overview of the advantage to the old model:

* Ergonomical improved grip with picatinny rail
* Conversion kit for 9x19, .40S&W
* Low profile like on the series M-A1 therefore you have nearly no muzzle climb
* Increase of function safety in the calibre 9x19 thanks to a new clearance
* Possibility to mount a sling on the grip

In March last year, I put up an ad on CG for a small number of Steyr M's being offered by a FFL in Alabama who sold me my M9. Check out the $399 .357 SIGs: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=168204&highlight=steyr+M

I'm not sure how many CG'ers ordered from him in response to this ad, but he sold out in less than two days.

Does T&A armory have any left? They're closed until Saturday due to the SHOT show. I've wanted an M40-A1 since firing my cousin's in Philly, and didn't know time was running out. :sweatdrop:

Also, the DOJ expiration is this Sunday... if T&A has one, and I purchase and pay for it on Saturday, would that count as being sold before the expiration? Or does it include the 10 day waiting period and is automatically too late?

This is from Steyr Club:
I have a M9A1 with 800 rounds fired through it. It is in very good-excellent condition. The sale would include 4 15 round magazines. Asking price is $450 shipped.

The two I picked up at T&A were NIB for about the same price, so this is not such a great deal. It is in AZ also, so it can no longer be brought into CA because it is going to be off the list in a few days.

T&A Armory is out as well (those were the last two).

Has anyone enquired with Steyr USA whether they are paying the Roster renewal fee this year? We had a similar situation last year where there was a lot of uncertainty whether Steyr USA were going to renew the M-series on the roster. They did, but it took the DoJ a little bit of time to update the site.

Steyr USA may keep all the pistols on the roster, since the only reason they were suspending the importation of pistols was due to the strong Euro/ weak US Dollar. Steyr USA have to buy the guns from factory in Euros, but a weak dollar makes them expensive, and they cannot make profit, at the price point the Steyr pistols sell for in the US.

According to a statement they made, they plan to import pistols again, when the dollar is strong enough against the Euro, for it to be viable to sell pistols in the US at a profit again.

You are correct. For the time being Steyr will not be exporting to the USA.

That is correct, but....
There is a rumor that the line will be re-introduced soon with the addition of the "L" series. The "L" will be the large frame Steyr. Designed for .45 ACP. The "M" will still be the medium frame, and the "S" will be the small frame.

<shrurs> This is a bad thing, actually. Steyr suppose to be combat tappleware, not collectors item.
If there is no steady supply why buy it in the first place? It is a very good gun.... and I am surely sorry I didn't buy it when CDNN had them for $340 ( IIRC ). But it isn't any better that M&P or Glock.
For about $400 new it was a steal. For $500 used ( that what they sell now ), why bother?
