Hi:

I'm looking at these three scopes:

Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x32mm available for $550 (list $690):
http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/handgun-scopes/vx-3-2-5-8x32mm-handgun/

Burris Handgun Scope 2X-7X-32mm available for $290 (list $526):
http://www.burrisoptics.com/handgun1.html#2x7x

Simmons ProHunter 26x32 available for $180 or less:
http://www.simmonsoptics.com/riflescopes/prohunter.cfm

I want to put one of these on a Ruger MkIII Hunter, then perhaps on a Ruger GP100.

Several people have the Simmons and don't seem to have any complaints. How much more does one get for the money to purchase the high-end scopes?

The current sale price on the Burris at OpticsPlanet is very compelling.

If they weren't so costly I'd buy all three and compare.

How does resale value vary with the maker of the scope? Can I expect to be able to sell a Leupold for nearly what I paid, vs. not so for a lesser scope?

Thanks for comments.

I've got a Leupold that works well.

Been itching to get a Bushnell Elite 3200 w/Firefly reticle

You get what you pay for. Never cheap out on the glass. What you get for the money is usualy sharpness and clarity.

Yep, and especially in early morning light and at dusk.
