Dear Editor: Every year the Brady campaign grades states based upon their gun control laws, implying that more restrictive gun laws equal greater safety. The Brady campaign has a lengthy list of restrictions they desire and states get points for each such restriction they have in place. California, the state with the most gun control, is always at the top of the class.

The Brady rating system is flawed to say the least. The system fails to ask whether all these laws, which harass law-abiding gun owners, actually reduce crime. They incorrectly equate more laws with greater safety, even if the facts do not support that conclusion. Somehow they fail to note that over the last 20 years, California, the state with the most gun control (and thus their favorite state), has had an annual murder rate 25 percent higher on average than the rest of the nation.

It seems almost as if criminals ignore gun laws. Oh, yeah, ignoring laws is what defines a criminal.

Doesn't matter for them, they can spin it just how they like. For instance, Bill Bratton recently explained that crime in LA has gone down to the diligence of the LAPD. Right.
