I have a MB 500 that I got in a trade for some work on a car back in 1994. I have no idea where the person is now that I traded with. But it was definitely a legal gun he bought himself. How or can I make this gun legal without the original owner?

The gun is legal as long as it wasn't stolen. Long gun's aren't registered.
Whether or not the transaction was legal is a moot point, the statute of limitations has run out.

Wow, quick reply. So are you saying I need to do nothing? I just want to make sure all my ducks are in a row in case I need to use it in HD. All these home invasions lately have me thinking my wife would be the last line of defense with this thing in the bedroom with the kids. Also it may be nice to take it to the range and get some rounds through it. All input and comments are greatly appreciated. :D

If it was a handgun you should be worried but in this case dont sweat it.

No records of long guns, so you are good to go. Only handguns after 1991 would be an issue
