Here's a Venezuelian SAFN-49 in a sniper rig set up, there's not alot of documentation with regards to sniper rigs for the Venezuelian military, though the mount and scope are authentic to those used by other armies that fielded this weapon.

Yes, I'm bored going thru things today and organizing, cleaning, etc.

Old post, I know, but I wanted to say this is a very nice FN49! Did you add the scope & mount yourself, or was it with the rifle when you got it?

That is a very pretty clean and original rifle. But not a true sniper. The scope is marked ABL and is a ex Belgian contract Type three OIP made scope. Plus the rifle lacks the proper FN cheek piece.

Not a knock it is just what it is.

Actually there is good documentation regarding each nation who used the FN-49.

Regarding sniper rifles:( which means rifles factory fitted with the wooden cheek piece as well as the factory scope base and numbered Echo rings and scope )

Belgian contract there were 362 sniper rifles delivered.

Belgian Congo 185 sniper rifles delivered

Egypt 100 sniper rifles delivered

Luxembourg 203 sniper rifles delivered.

Of the 8,012 FN-49 rifles delivered to Venezuela all had the slot on the left side of the receiver for the scope base, however there were no true sniper rifles with the wood cheek piece ordered or delivered to Venezuela.

Of the 8012 rifles 12 were factory cut away training rifles. The remaining 800 were standard rifles with the features ordered by Venezuela.

A few pics of original FN-49 snipers.
