I'm in Fremont and have an older high standard military .22 pistol that needs a little work done.

Recomendations?
Thanks

They have some older guys working there that appreciate older .22. I took in my Marlin 80 (1930's vintage) and they checked it out.

Lot of pressure on them for hunting season repairs. If you are relaxed during the repair discussions, they seem to work faster on your gun, and not the whiner's hunting rifles.

Another question, how are gunsmiths paid? By hour? by work done? All I need done is a slide lock lever replaced. How much should I expect to pay?

Sorry, gun newbie.

Imbert and Smithers is pretty busy this season, you could try Frank Tabor's in San Bruno, although I checked about a bedding job and he stated that they were also pretty busy.

Real awesome proprietor!

A friend and I brought in his POS Taurus auto a year back. The owner/smith replaced several bad pins and one spring... FOR FREE, ON THE SPOT. Out of respect (and awe?), we ended up buying $50 worth of supplies from him.

Bob from Reeds Sport down at San Jose is cool (http://www.reedssportshop.com/location.html (http://www.reedssportshop.com/location.html)).

He had upgraded most of my 1911 (mostly trigger job – that’s the one upgrade I don’t have the gut to mess with) and a few Sig/Beretta.

He (or in this case – Reeds) charges $40/hour and usually Bob will tell you a ball park cost when you drop off the gun. As a matter of fact I just dropped off my SA 1911 Service with him yesterday and since he is leaving on a vacation next week, he told me that it should be ready by the 2nd week of December.

Bob is cool – because he “talks” to you and find out what you really want before he starts working on the gun. As a matter of fact – all theguys working in the gun department are pretty nice – unfortunately the price at Reeds is not the cheapest (among other stores).

Of course, IMHO. :)
