i remember how crazy it was to buy parts, ammo, firearms, primers (?!) a year ago.

it was a crazy time. i think i was on the fence about buyin' a Stag 2T from D&D's, and of course i didn't. the election of obama passed, and i went back only to find that there was a 3 month waiting period. WTF? i ended up buyin' it on LANworld for $1200.

also purchased an A3 20" upper w/ handguards for about $620.

case of 5.56 Federal LC XM193 for about $550.

it sounds crazy, but it seemed like a really good deal at the time. i knew we were over paying and overreacting, but i still got caught up in the hype.

so what did you end up buying around this time last year?

Just some primers that I needed (was lucky and got them from Grafs), and some accessories. And I am a good enough mariner that my boat didn't sink. Gee, what you guys been doing out on the water :chris:

2008, 2009 I presume? Not August 09' right?

I didn't buy jack squat. I knew the sky wasn't falling, the guns were gonna still be here as I predicted.

When everyone was buying AR,AK and every other EBR accessory I was out purchasing other stuff. It was great too, prices weren't inflated and everything was readily in stock.

2008/2009 was a great year of acquisition for me.

Brand new Glock 35........for just under $500..... used my GSSF certificate.:p

I decided to wait out, like Black Majik said. Had some ammo before the election, and at the rate I was using, I'd have been out in April/May, so cut back on the range trips. nothing extraordinary until a few months ago when it started to die down. Got some guns since then.

Before April I had no firearms... now I've got pretty much got it all covered: AR, Bolt, Shotgun, Pistol, C&Rs

It's been an amazing year, thank god for Calguns or none of it would have happened for me. Thank you all.

What's everyone's consensus on when the "scare time frame" was considered to be over?

I didn't buy my first firearm until August this year--2009. I also was in a position financially to have started quite a bit before August, but waited instead.

And, since August, I've bought several more.

I didn't fall prey to the panic, either. But, question is; do you guys think I waited it out long enough to be considered a buyer outside the "scare/panic buying window"? Just curious.

I didn't buy anything except some ammo here and there (mostly .223). I couldn't understand what the frenzy was all about. It was a ridiculous scare where the shortage was essentially triggered by a fear of shortage.

I hope ammo and components manufacturers will eventually catch up with the demand, but it seems that every week or so some new unfounded rumor pops up that keeps feeding the fear.

And since it's good for business and memberships, the powers that be don't really do much to disparage them, except in a few places like this one.

AK here on Calguns, as well as mags and ammo.

Paid $700 for an NDS-3/Romanian AK, with one rebuild kit and 200 rounds of Wolf. Had 30 rounds through it:

http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/2504/floora.th.jpg (http://img16.imageshack.us/i/floora.jpg/)

Only reason I bought it was because I really wanted to get a gun (it was my first).

But it was not a bad deal for the time, considering I saw WASRs with no ammo going for $800 easily.

Bought 2 Sun Devil Lowers just in case nObama banned them :( Lucily I was able to get almost all of my ammo for decent pricing and primers and bullets including powder. I bought some CCI Blazer .22LR for $25 a brick luckily I only bought 3 at that price ;) I am glad I got a Dillon XL650 with casefeeder for free, also glad I decided to load my own 9mm since it is near impossible to get it for .20 a round :(

I sold a model one sales ar15 upper for 800 and I then added a few hundred dollars more and upgraded to a jp enterprises upper. I also bought any primmer I could get my hands on. Now I have a **** load of pistol primers that will take me a decade to use and still cannot get any 215m's to save my life.

My 10 day wait on an xd9 ended on the day Obama was elected and I have been buying ever since....

Just because nothing has happened in the first year doesn't mean it won't. There hasn't been time with all the current issues being pushed, healthcare destruction, cap and trade coming up, immigration around the corner, civilian trial of a terrorist around the corner, etc, etc, etc....

It may not be next year, but after the 2010 congressional elections a big fat bullseye will be painted on the second amendment.

Just an M&P from Smith and Wesson. Other than that, nothing. As others posted, the sky wasn't falling despite everyone running out and acting as if it were. It's always amazing to see people give into the hysteria and go out and drove prices up for themselves as well as everyone else.

I was able to sell some bullets, primers, and powder for a good price though. The crowd mentality is such a love/hate thing.

I bought a bunch of C&Rs and older guns, since everyone seemed eager to dump them to buy more black rifles and 5.56/7.62 ammo. Bought a few modern handguns, as well, when I saw good deals (and there was quite a few of those). I have a feeling now (or soon) will be a good time to buy black rifles, with people dumping things that they shouldn't have bought in the first place.

It's not really different from the stock market.

This is only the stuff I bought since November not including 10,000 plus rounds of ammo and the 4 boxes of other stuff. I over paid for alot of stuff but compared to the money i saved buying my house (cash offer on a short sale) it makes up for it.

Exactly. So much for fair trade but they have some argument in that they have to take time in looking for the ammo, driving to buy it and driving to meet you. However, lose the idea someone is doing you a favor because favor is not involved when you pay 130-200% of cost. I think a few dollars is fair depending on how hard ammo is to get. But look at the other side of the table at people lowballing and waiting like sharks and piranas to buy ammo or guns when some calgunner is real broke and has to pay rent or hospital bills and they still lowball or wait for big price drops. That to me is despicable but that is the difference between eagles and vultures. The biggest joke is when someone has the idea they're doing you a favor or think it's a fair deal when your losing you @ss on a sale. Karma is a b*tch, some people will lose their butts when their cheapskate, nickel-and diming selves get theirs in bad luck. Fair trade keeps that karma good, and a little generosity when someone is down in life will repay you.
