Just got the info that Richmond will be having their Intro to IPSC class on Dec. 17. Cost is $25 but you also get a certificate to shoot your first match there free. I might be attending.

I took the class a while back. Very good info and well taught by Bill. Some of the other members helped out, Adam, Vince and Mike?

You get class room instruction and then get to run a stage a few times. Well worth the $25.

I shot my first match last Sunday. Nice day, good people, lots o' fun.

Sign up, you will like it.

Hey Eric,
Class is tomorrow, so no interference with the shotgun meetup :) . But there's a highpower match at Chabot on the 31st. They have loaner garands and you could get your mags . Good luck with the match.

Thanks... I talked to Exiledviking and he said he was coming up to the range about a mile from my house to shoot a match. He said if I showed up with a gun, a holster, 300 rounds, and some mags I would be good to go... I am glad it is a stel match since they are a little easier for a beginner.. Who makes a good cheap mag pouch?? Looking for something to go with the $20 holster...

The class was alot of fun. But the weather was terrible out on the range~50 degrees and raining. With me a bay area native that should've known better in a t-shirt :o . So we didn't shoot as much compared with a usual class. Still shot enough to see IPSC's fun :), loved shooting the four poppers. Bill gives a good class, not like the torture that was my hunter safety lecture.

How'd your match go, Eric?

We had the same weather problems, but it cleared up enough to shoot. Because of low turnout and weather, they only ran 5 out of 7 stages. 8 people showed up. There were 2 of us in limited 10, and I creamed him...:D
3 guys were shooting some hopped up 8 shot revolvers, and 3 people on .22. I had a great time since this was kind of an informal match. mostly just IDPA setup of targets with a "run what ya brung" attitude. This is a very cool range owned by Hogue(the grip guys) and they do all sorts of good stuff there. The next one is January 22nd... I am so there...:D

Funny.. none of the people in the class shot the Match on the 18th. We had 5 stages and several small lakes on the range. I poked my head in briefly on Saturday (Bill said "Hi Vince") before I shut the door and bailed outa there. I think the rain started soon after. I was there Sunday morning, we had 12 shooters and 5 stages. It was nasty out there.. L10 was the favored division with 5 people, 3 in open, 3 in Prod, and 1 in Limited. One of the L10 shooters was firing an 8 shot 627, He placed second in L10.

We were all done by about 2 pm. We were all pretty much soaked, :D

I was tempted, figured it might be a low turnout match, perfect for a beginner :) . But after seeing the weather from the safety of my comforter, I think I made the right choice ;) . Plus I want to go to a few practices.

Yeah...we wanted to come out and play but Richmond can be nasty after a storm. Actually, I was all ready to go but the wife wasn't very enthused about the weather :)

Larry, dump the broad if she won't come out and play :-), you guys should've been there. We had to shoot inbetween the monsoons...if would have been good practice for reloads with retention...

I didn't loose a single moon clip either...did kick the miller's behind (all 3 of them for once)...

Found Vince's weak point, he spends his time when it's raining, looking up at the ducks/geese flying over. It was wierd to see geese land in bay 1 and then take off when the shooting started.

We will be having an IDPA match on Jan 8th at Richmond...

Well d'uh... And that's what I'll be doing for the next couple weekends.. Heading up to the duck club to get some duckies and maybe a few geese too. As I told someone else, November was too warm, December too busy, January, just right... I have the time and the birds are working, woo hoo!

Hunting report in another thread next week.

I usually shoot IDPA w/ the Sac and Midvalley Shooters, where's the info for the Richmond club?

And are the Richmond IPSC/USPSA people doing another orientation anytime soon? I'd be interested.

Does anyone know what is needed to shoot IPSC over here if you've shot IPSC in another region?

I've shot IPSC for 11 or 12 years and was the instructor for my area (40h class needed to compete in Sweded), so taking an intro class feels a bit silly :)
