I took my son and his mother to Panoche Saturday. It was his second time, and her first. From the sounds of it, there were probably one or two shooters out there with us, but they were far away. For Nov 18, it was hot, hot, hot and very dry. The thermometer on my truck said 80+ and the sun was cooking us to a nice shade of pink.
We found a nice area with a back stop for rifle/pistol targets on one side and a small valley with a mountain backstop to throw clays into on the other. The one thing that disturbed me was the three of us had just finished dusting a box or two of clays, when walking up from the valley we were launching clays into comes a hunter. He just came out of nowhere  . He walked next to our site saying that he was hunting doves and was going back to his car. I thought I had picked a safe site to shoot, but maybe not. A word to the wise, pick your Panoche site with care and be aware that there are others roaming around out there.
Anyway, my son had a grand time shooting, he is getting really good at dusting clays, and he really enjoyed shooting the M1A (thanks xsquid!) and my humble collection of 45's. Both my son and his mother also shot my M3 with 00 buckshot and slugs...they have a scatter gun hickey on their shoulder now. We picked up all our trash and left the site hopefully better than we found it (except the shaving cream goop...those cans blow up sooo nicely :D ).
