one of my buddies just got a ranch in yorba linda. there's all sorts of junk there in the middle of nowhere that needs holes punched through it. can he just give me permission to shoot on his land, or is this illegal?

Check with the city. They may not allow a firearm to be discharged within the city limits.

[Yorba Linda Municipal Code] Chapter 9.20 WEAPONS
9.20.010. Discharge unlawful.
It is unlawful for any person, other than an officer of the law while on duty, to discharge any rifle, pistol or gun of any kind within the city, except in target shooting in a shooting gallery regularly licensed by the city; and it is unlawful for any person to shoot or discharge any air gun, spring gun, slingshot or any other similar device within the city. (Prior code § 21-5)

Sling Shot????? Why would anyone feel the need to include a sling shot into that stupid municipal code?

Of course they don't mention the possiblity of gas propelled projectiles :) It may be possible (and don't quote me) to build a recoiless rifle out of a 6 foot length of PVC pipe and then connect a seperate peice of tube to fill it with gas (perhaps arosel from a spray can) after dropping in a projectile through the barrel. Then one would ignite the breech with flame perhaps from a lighter.
NOT that I've ever done this... nor have I ever seen it done. Just... you know... an idea that popped into my head that appearantly didn't pop into the politician's head who wrote that law.

Is the ranch actually inside the city limits or is Yorba Linda just the closets town to the ranch?
