I picked up the wood furniture via SaigaStock.com (fantastic service!) based a a few comments read on this site and others. I had thought about restoring the Saiga but let's be honest, we are not truly "restoring" them in California. That mag lock just pees me off! I decided to go for the improved ergonomics, balance and handling of the Russian made wood. SWEET! This has made my Little Russian friend a keeper!

P.S. The sling is Russian as well! Hello, Comrade!

man that is a nice looking rifle
I'm thinking I should have done that instead of the conversion
make a great scout rifle with scout scope on it

Bucky, I was thinking the same thing. Hey, we can have both!

I'm going to buy the wood and get some checkering done on the forearm/grip.
Have a nicer finish put on it, too. That cheek-rest looks kind of low for a scope, might need a leather pad.

Then when I'm in the field, it won't look so out of place. A five-round mag will help, too.

I am glad you took the advise, more will want that type of stock;). And your Saiga looks very nice.

I have already started my planning to do the same. The finish is much better than the pics show but some nice checkering and a little darker finish is in the future!

That is on my wish list. Hoping the wife will get it for my birthday.

Beautiful rifle! Too bad they don't make a domestic equivalent for 922r purposes but hopefully Ironwood Designs will make Saiga furniture soon. In the meantime I've added this wood to my 5.45 and it's much nicer to shoot. Add mojo sights and it's a great rifle without any CA hassles. I like mine so much I've just DROS'ed a .223 and ordered an AR-15 mag adapter to go with it. I'll be adding this furniture once it's all done.

I first saw it here on CalGuns. I have to tell you, the gun feels so much better to shoot. The angle of the grip is much more natural. I can't wait to get up to the tin can area at Los Altos and cut loose a little bit.
