The SoCal 50 Shooters will be back at the range this Sunday (20th) for any of you that want to come out and play. You don't have to own a .50 to shoot with us and if you want to try one out just ask.
www.angelesranges.com for directions, we'll be at the far end of the rifle range.

50 shooter,
I'll be there along with Mike and Ken (Beetle and Bambam) from THR. I'm meeting them at noon. Will you guys still be around?
See ya guys there :)

The range opens at 9 am, I'm usually the first person there at around 8 am. I do this so that I can save some benches for everyone. We set up at the far end of the rifle range by the clay throwers, can't miss us.
Most of the guys stay until about 2 pm with a few staying until they close. As a reminder, you can drive up to the benches to drop off your stuff. I like to keep the group together so that if you drop your stuff off someone will be watching it for you.
Wasn't the Angeles range threatened with closure, a Google and Calguns search doesn't show anything, I thought there was a housing tract nearby trying to get rid of the range last year, or is my memory even worse than I thought?

No, it wasn't ASR.
I know what you're talking about but I can't think of the range, wasn't it over by Azusa?

Its the San Gabriel Valley Range you're thinking about, and they're still being threatened.

I'll be out there on Sunday at around 11-11:30. I need to shoot my new (to me) Russkie SKS. Also I need to mount and zero the Aimpoint on the SOCOM. Then zero both rifles. Should be lots of fun, I hope that the weather holds.

Heh... just like the October shoot:
"Look for 3 skinny asian guys" (me, beetle bailey, and bambam) :D
I'll be in a gray polo shirt and blue jeans. Name's Richard.

Glad you guys made it out to the range today, hope you enjoyed trying out the .50. We'll be back out there next month, third Sunday as usual.
If you're interested in the other shoot let me know, you can email me at ar50shooter@hotmail.com and we'll discuss it more.
When you get your .50 remember to pass along our tradition of letting first timers shoot it for free. That would be a .50 DTC or .50 spotter of course.;)

Hey Shawn,
I wanna thank you for your hospitality today at the range. Shooting those .50's were great. I still gotta huge ol' grin rite now. I still cant believe that I can be "plinking" at 600 yards with a .50 BMG rifle. Too much fun.
It was a very fun day. I'm definitely interested in the next .50 shoot. I'll probably come out again next month, its too fun to pass up. :)
Oh yeah, thanks too. I'm partly deaf in my right ear. My left ear is ringing, but at least I can hear it. :D
Til' next time!

I made it out there around noon, but all the benches near the far left end were taken up. Also the thundering boom of the .50s left my ears ringing a bit when I was up close. I figured maybe 1 or 2 50's would be out there but I think I saw about 7 or 8 set up...couldn't really recognize anyone by their descriptions, so I set up around the middle of the benches. I was hoping to meet some of you guys, maybe next month.
Stevie, I didn't get a chance to shoot the SKS! Bummer, but my girl wanted to go to the pistol range after shooting the .308. She claimed it beat her up her shoulder too much and didn't want to hang around while I tried the SKS. So we packed up and headed to the pistol line.

Donger,
how ironic. After setting some rounds off from the .50, my friend said he wanted to go check out one of the socoms with a modified stock. But then 2 other friends showed up and we never made it to checking out your gun.
Well... next time man, bummer we didn't get to meet, but we almost did! :D

Richard,
Sorry I missed you and your friends. I think I was the only person on the line with a socom. I really enjoy meeting other shooters and had a lot of fun at Angeles yesterday regardless.
Next month!

*** UPDATE ***
I forgot to add this, you do not need to sign up in the office if you've shot at ASR before. Come over and sign our roster sheet of shooters and sign in/pay there. This will save you time and money as it only costs $5 to shoot all day if you sign in with our group.
If you want a target stand you'll need to go to the office and get one, if they ask tell them you're with us. This is on the HONOR system so please return the target stand. If you shoot it up please pay for it as they charge you for it, if the stand is shot free just place it back in the holders.
Is there any north Ca equivalent of this .50 shoot?

Contact Pathfinder, he has a quary shoot up north. He usually posts it over on arfcom, he posts here also.
How late do you guys stay there ??

50, I may make it up early when Angeles opens but I've never met you and your big guns intimidate me ;) . So are you gonna be at the far end of the range again?
Plus I need to zero my brand new SU-16 but don't want to get my eyes and ears blown off by the blast off your .50!!
Once again, I will try and make it up there ***sigh***. It seems like every time theres a shoot up there I have something going on.
I'll grab the SKS and my oldest son and head up once we get some stuff done in the morning.

Donger,
Yep, far end of the rifle range. You can always move a few benches down so you don't get blown away.:p Just ask for Shawn and the guys will point you my way. If you do set up next to a .50, don't leave anything you value on the bench. I've seen a .50 get blown off a bench from another one, lucky they both belonged to the same guy.:o Of course he wouldn't think it was lucky but it did test the durability of the holosight he had on it.

I finally just went over to the pistol side and started the 'Learning to shoot a rifle left-handed' process

Hey Mr. Kubota, I forgot to ask who made that stand??? Did you or did you have someone make it up?
mrkubota
12-19-2005, 11:42 AM
I built it...ran me about 250.00 for 'parts'. Weighs around 100# assembled, but breaks down into five components for transport.
This was my first test and it seems to be sturdy enough, but really needs to be staked down or sandbagged to keep from rocking back. Even leaning into it while shooting wouldn't keep it from pushing back!
I still want to add a bracket for an elevation turnbuckle as well.

Heard some rapid firing at Lytle Creek on Sunday, don't know what they were shooting at, the fog was so thick you could hardly see 25 yards.
