I am new to AR's and just starting a build and was wondering what the benefits of an auto BCG over a semi BCG, if there are any?

The extra weight of a full-auto BCG will help delay unlocking (a plus with the carbine gas system) and it is the correct weight as designed and intended for the BCG.

Auto BCG or nothing.

The difference in weight is 0.3oz. It's a really small cut to prevent tripping the autosear

The real difference is they were classically higher quality (as they came from mil contracts), but nowadays an equal quality semi (BCM, LMT, Sabre) is also shot peened, HPT/MPI'd.

The only other advantage is you can run your upper without swapping BCGs with a MG lower out of state (if you get to do that).

Here's how they look (semi on left):
