the plates were manufactured 7/2004, they are 10" x 12" x 1/2", the plates look like they have kevlar wrapped on them see picture below

http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/1390/dscn3233g.th.jpg (http://img697.imageshack.us/i/dscn3233g.jpg/)

also i am located in nj but I can ship these in a flat rate box, and will cover the cost of that myself.

level IV is the highest protection in body armor i believe, they will handle impacts from 30'06 rounds and deffintly 308 rounds

That's SpectraShield and Kevlar. Dont get much better than that. Heavy though. I don't see them on the N.I.J. listing but that does'nt mean they have'nt submitted yet.

These say that they are "In conjunction with" plates. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that means to reach Level IV they will have to be used with a soft armor vest of what appears to be Level II or greater.

Correct. These are inserts that go into the plate carrier pockets on a Level II vest. Without the vest, they'll still do you plenty of good, but they don't qualify as Level IV.

devilmoon
12-12-2009, 9:49 AM
thats incorrect does not need a level 3 vest to comply with level IV standards. But the post stating it needs a Vest Type II to obtain a level IV rating is correct I have found out. So what exactly are these plates by themselves cause these plates are some heavy duty stuff like almost 7lbs a piece. Can anyone confirm what standard the plates are alone because i cant see them being level 2 cause the vest is like nothing that i have.

Corrected my post above.

As to your question, it's possible that without the extra barrier of the Level II vest in front, they would have to add a couple more layers of fabric to the plate to get Level IV, making it slightly heavier and thicker.

By itself or in a simple plate carrier, it's still a great plate, and is probably achingly close to meeting Level IV standards, but isn't quite there because of how the maker expected these to be deployed (probably SWAT instead of mil).

Good luck with the sale.

Is there an expiration date on these plates, like on kevlar soft armor ?

devilmoon
12-12-2009, 10:19 AM
there is no experation on the plates nor does it state any kind of life expectency on the plates at all. Only manufacturer instructions on the plates are: Do Not Drop and Handle with care.

They are level IV plates, they are meant to be paired with a level II vest, which is, simply put, most real plate carriers. You don't just duct tape these things to your chest, you put them in a plate carrier, which is almost certainly going to be level II or above if it is a "real" PC and not intended for replica use. The lesser grade vest would be called (And is going to be legally marked with) LAV, or Light Armor Vest, which may or may not be mentioned along with LBV, or Load Bearing Vest. Basically speaking, if you buy a legit PC - Plate Carrier - you will be fine. People just get confused because the two items are actually very similar, one is simply meant for use with plates, and one is meant for use with light armor.

So with that said, these are level IV plates, and if used correctly (Honestly, thats not your problem, its the buyer's) these plates can and will produce ideal results that should be expected from level IV plates. Good price too for quality plates.

thank you very much for the setting that straight. Thats pretty much what i thought, they most likely have to say that just to cover there *** cause the vest they were in is level 2 but that vest really feels to me like it wouldnt offer much protection at all anyway.
