Just about done here with my 5.56 build. Kaiser Defense lower with RRA LPK, upper is a RRA with 20" barrel and Midwest FF forend, Matech rear 600yd sights, Tapco grip and a Primary Arms red dot.
What kind of front sights should I go with on this set up? Nothing too expensive of course, this is not a patrol rifle, just a plinker.

For rail mount height front sights, the least expensive options appear to be Magpul Mbus, YHM fixed, and Leapers/UTG fixed.

There are probably a lot of airsoft folding sights like the leapers but I wouldn't trust them as much as a fixed sight.

Is that red dot high enough for you? Looks awfully low. Other than that it looks great. A MBUS is your cheapest option for a front sight. but it wont match your rear. The MBUS is cheap enough you could just get both from and rear and collect the whole set:D.

I would buy a taller mount for the redot before buying the ront sight. A magpul MBUS would work well however.

DD sights are both fixed but good . I have the rear sight and it is solid. I am sure the front is also. With the way your optic is mounted it won't co-witness. At least it looks like your optic is direct mounted.

Only because you asked...normally I just say great rifle, and you did build a great rifle...there are just a couple of little things.

SIGHTS

For plinking, Midwest Industries is great. High-end I would go with Troy. Magpul is very innexpensive, but be very careful when installing them as they have a tendency to break when installing them. The plastic is too thing where it attaches to the rail. http://tacticalcity.com/minorcategory.asp?MinorCatID=62&CategoryID=1&SubCatID=43

AIMPOINT MOUNT

Gonna need a HIGH height mount for that Aimpoint as well. Get your iron backups in the lower 1/3 of the aimpoint when up. Low mounts like that are for AKs and other rifles with low sights. American Defense makes some really nice ones. http://tacticalcity.com/subcategory.asp?SubCatID=189&CategoryID=4 but if you are on a budget you could always run a Burris XTR ring. http://tacticalcity.com/product_details.asp?ProdID=757

Other than that, the rifle looks amazing. Great first build.

For plinking, Midwest Industries is great. Nicely priced and very sturdy. Heard of and seen alot of those MBUS sights snap in half just installing them. They are very fragile. Not much of a YHM fan.

High-end I would go with Knight's Armament (when you can find them) or Troy. PRI mages a really nice flip-up front sight as well.

I had Midwest's best buis, the same plane low profile BUIS. Sent the first one back because the white screen printed windage markers on the back were printed way slanted, sent it back. The replacement was correct in this regard, but overall was not impressed one bit for the $120 that it cost. There are actually many well made BUIS's out there, GG&G is made well, YHM IS MADE well, ARMS, TROY etc.... If price is an issue, those YHM QDS sights are the best buy out there (for the sale price), $150 for the pair.

Nice rifle, IMHO I like the Troy sights.

I had the opposite experience with regards to YHM and Midwest Industries. I think you just got a bad apple. It happens. I've just never really "clicked" with YHM. If you feel the same about Midwest Industries, I understand. Once you get burned by something, even it gets made right, it's hard to change your mind about it.

Just for the record, I wasn't thinking of the low profile sight you had. I was thinking of their entry level sight. He asked for dirt cheap, and for the money I think their entry level sights are pretty darn hard to beat. I haven't liked anything else in that price range. I've run them on lots of different builds and never had a single issue. For $120, you are right I'd rather go with GG&G or pony-up a couple bucks more and go with TROY.

Most of the time I run Knight's Armament, but you really pay through the nose for KAC...and it usually means sitting and waiting for it to come in. I am not sure what sight he has in the rear, but it looks like a MATECH? Never run them but I have heard good things.

Thanks everyone. This is actually my second build. I have a Matech 600yd sight on rear. I was thinking of the Magpul sight, but I want something a little better. Not fond of plastic sights. I was thinking of going with a taller sight, but like alot of you said, I do need a higher mount. I am going to zero this baby in mabe tomorrow or Tuesday before I head out on my camping trip to Palm Canyon.

Fixed front sight. Either of these would be fine choices:
