View Full Version : How much does your gun weigh??

I was just thinking between the two AR's that I shoot regularly, they weigh about the same but are a much different build. One is a 16" carbine with MI handguards, Magpul XT panels, CTR stock EOtech with a riser and a BUIS and a sling.

The other is an 18" JP upper with a VTAC handguard, carry handle, 4x cheapo carry handle scope, A2 buttstock Sling, and a LMOS carrier.

These two weigh about the same; around 8 or so lbs. I'm surprised that they are so close so I was wondering what your rifles are at as far as weight goes.

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed that my 16" mid-length with an ACE Skeleton stock is as heavy as it is. It started off light, but when I add a 1.5-4.5x24 scope with mount it adds over a pound and that pretty much kills the light weight.

Not sure about my AR's, but my Uzi weighs a ton.

Mine is heavy I estimated it about 9lbs according to UPS shipping weight.... I got a 13.2 rail and a UBR.

The barrel of the one in my avatar weighs in at 890lbs. http://schwartz.eng.auburn.edu/ACW/arty/10parrottm61.html My competition rifles weigh around 42 lbs or so depending on which attachments are on them at the time.

I have a 14.5" CMMG pencil barrel build that has a CTR and a MI two-piece free float and an EOTech and it weighs in at 7 lbs 3oz with an empty PMag in place.

I also have a 20" CMMG Medcon based build with a YHM standard free float, PRS, 3-10x40 scope, armalite mount, and Harris bi-pod and that beast is around 13 lbs.

The other ARs I own are in-between.

I wonder what the 16" BCM lightweight upper weight? its coming out next year.

My 16" BCM middy with 9" DD omega, a cheap 9' scope and MOE stock is about 7+ lbs empty.
I read there's some AR that weights about 5+ lbs.

I have a scoped, 20" bull barrel with an adjustable match stock that tips the scales right at 14 Lbs.

BCM 16" mid-length upper, Troy buis, DD lite 12" rail, Magpul MOE stock, MS2 sling and empty pmag came out to 7.0 lbs even.

I haven't weighed my 20" JP-15 upper with PRS stock yet, but it's not exactly a lightweight.

my ar has

DD Omega 7.0 with Magpul Ladders, Bipod adapter, MI Sling hook

BAD Lever

comes in at 7lbs 4oz without a mag

My M4gery is about 6.6lbs with an empty mag and a 3x9x40 tactical scope.

My 3 gun rifle has a medium contour 17.5" barrel, YHM customizable handguard with one 2" rail section for a light, A2 stock, JP LMOS carrier, Lightened A2 buffer and a Burris XTR 1-4 sitting in a LaRue mount weighs just under 8lbs.

8.5 pounds empty mag, both my builds, see in signature below details/images

Built in pieces separately, but I've got a 20" Stag 4H complete with a DPMS leather strap on it, no mag comes in at 9lbs exactly. Doesn't feel too bad... we'll see what my 16" CMMG comes in at on Monday.

How are you guys weighing your rifles? With an ordinary bathroom floor scale? Is that very accurate?

I use my postal scale.
It goes to 10lbs.
If the gun is heavier, break it down and weigh the upper and lower separetely.

Yes, I used my kids and the bathroom scale. Not the best method.

14.5 KISS - no optics, simple rail, handle sights, Viltor stock = 6.5

16.0 KISS - Like above without rail, just stock hand guards = 6.7

I build my purposely to be light and handy. Most of my shooting is backpacking/hiking in the woods, or off a bench.

Nothing fancy.

mine tips the scale at just under 7 lbs.

14.7 barreled cmmg upper
ACS stock
Omega 7 rail
Aimpoint h1 w/DD mount
empty mag
