No offense intended but all those pics look CGI. Are those pics of the real product? They really look either CGI or heavily photoshopped to me...

Are these DPMS patterned? I've been thinking about one of these builds for a while now but I'd been leaning towards DPMS for parts availability...

Nice, I may have to get one.

These photo's are the real deal. I wish I knew how to photoshop, then I could have removed the styrafoam specks that were on the lower and I could have obliterated the serial number. I used a Nikon D5000 camera and a white sheet set up in my livingroom.

The lowers are that good, that one might assume that they couldn't be real.

Thanks for the compliments, I'll pass them on to Rob and Jesse at JD Machine

We have these receivers as well, and I can attest these images are NOT computer generated (I can't believe someone would even suggest such a thing). Jesse does beautiful work!

CGI is Computer Generated Imagery. Basically like the special effects you see in movies (some of them). Really general way to refer to computer graphics.

It must be the gray color and the smooth finish that makes my eyes think it's fake. They look REALLY slick in the pics..

You can use Paint (windows) to remove the SN easy. Just put a black box over it (though it wont look as professional). No need to now photoshop (I don't know it myself...)

Jeebus that's pricey for an upper/lower combo though (though they do look great). Is that typical in .308 builds? I haven't really done much price checking...

Oh yeah. Par for the course on that kind of build. They aren't priced like 5.56 ARs if that's what you were thinking.

I knew they cost more I just didn't realize it was 3x more. Thanks for the info though. I may pick one up when I move back to CA. Where I currently live I don't have any of my tools so building an upper isn't really a project I want to undertake.

I'd recommend the clone stamp tool in Photoshop :)

Quality and looks like this might just make me go with a matched set when I do my .308 build. Until now I hadn't ever seriously considered it.

Sweet pics Robby. Once again, Golden State FTW!

Those look great. I have been contemplating a .308 build and this might be the one that sets me over the top. Must resist till after Christmas.

Well...this seals the deal. I've been "on the fence" regarding big AR's for quite some time now. After seeing these products I am definitly going to go back into build mode. I guess I should stock up on .308 ammo!

hmmmm, what would I need to buy to finish the upper? barrell, bolt, charging handle, what else?

I spoke with JD this past weekend (They had a booth at the OC show) and they're making receivers as well as complete bolt carrier assemblies and chargers. They show prices were competitive, too.

These receivers are awesome. All I need now is a fluted 20 inch barrel and I'll be set. . . ..Jesse? . . . . . . Rob??

You'd need the forward assist stuff and also the dust cover. Dont forget flash hider and the rail.

Robby was nice enough to pull these out and let me drool on them when I went to pick up some parts last week. They look just as good in person as they do in the pics, the fit as the upper and lower mate is just insane.

So if you get the set with drool marks on them....sorry about that.

lol... Nope, not CGI. These receivers are very well machined and anodized.

Yep, DPMS pattern.

Yep, .308 receivers are more expensive than AR-15 receivers, but these are less than some of the other .308s on the market, and in my opinion/experience are nicer.

I'm just waiting on a few final parts to get mine complete and assembled, as soon as it's done I'll be posting pics.

Wow looking good! I have been waiting for these for forever now! But tack on tax and dros and I'm looking at an $800 upper / lower set. I'm thinking I can not justify the cost now. I thought they were going to be cheaper. Bummer.

would this take kindly to the 7.62mm also, or strictly .308?

Rukus
12-12-2009, 9:50 PM
Do you mean 7.62x51 or 7.62x39?

If you mean x51 then you do realize they are essentially the same? So yes it would fit fine, it would be your chamber sizing that would determine what whould be fired in your rifle.

If you mean x39 then no. 7.62x39 would fit in a standard AR lower however, no need for these types.

skyadrenaline
12-12-2009, 9:57 PM
I mean x51. I don't remember where I read this, but that some rifles would take .308 but not the 7.62x51 because of tolerancing issues. Thanks for the clear up. I'm complete newb (if you can't tell already) :)

Rukus
12-12-2009, 10:32 PM
Thats more of a chambering issue.

.308 Winchester has higher pressures than a 7.62x51 surplus load would have. That is why .308 Win is not recommended for use in Milsurp rifles. Most modern rifles will not have a problem shooting either. YMMV. Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to butt in with a newb question but what's with dpms compatible? Does dpms not fit in all ar style recievers?

There are two patterns of AR 10 parts. The DPMS pattern seems to be the version that is winning the VHS vs. Betamax battle with these. So when somebody says DPMS pattern, they mean the parts are set up to work with the DPMS version of the AR10. It has absolutely nothing to do with AR15s. They are completely different guns.

San Diego is only a few hours drive but it would be too far to do twice with the 10 day wait. I want an AR10 pattern rifle and this looks awesome. I may have to just buy the lower and build it up myself then get the upper later on.
