I just figured out that the magazine that came with my Lancaster AK (7.62x39) is, in fact, a Saiga magazine.

I'm hoping that this is why my AK was jamming twice per magazine, and since my other magazine (converted 10/30 from Riflegear) is absolutely terrible too I need a recommendation on where to buy magazines.

Don't care about poly/steel, but I would prefer 10rd over 10/30.

I hope a new magazine fixes your feeding problem, but if it's jamming with two different types of magazines, I hate to say, but it might be the rifle.

I'd like to know more about the magazine too. Do you have a pic of the Saiga mag? A Saiga magazine is a real AK magazine. It just has an extra tall feed lip up front to act as a bullet guide. The Saiga mags that have been converted to work in AK's that I've heard about seem to work just fine in an AK.

How many rounds have you put through your Lancaster?
Do you have any other AK's that you can try your mags on?
If not, how do you know that the converted 10/30 is terrible? Is it metal?

Have you tried different brands of ammo?

Can't recommend promag, rather you should go for an original com-bloc type. Its not that promag doesn't work, its just extremely hit or miss.

Kvar sells a nice 5 round AK magazines, but supposedly they don't ship anything to California, so you might want to try Atlantic firearms to see if they have any in stock.

Or, http://www.copesdistributing.net/product_info.php?cPath=32_34&products_id=1469. Can't go wrong with original bulgarian, some of the highest quality AK mags available.

I say OUCH to $38 for a bulgarian mag! Find a middle man (there are many reputable ones on calguns, like......thunderbird), purchase these http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ak7630clsmma.html, middleman will dissassemble for couple bucks a mag and have him ship to you. Much cheaper!

A few reduilds and make a 10 rounder yourself. It's the cheapest way to do it. If you can't or don't know how shoot me a PM and i'll tell you how to do it our I can convert it for you. It's not hard at all.

Don't have experience with Saiga but I will suggest fixing your rifle so it works will any mag out there.

I'm of the same thinking, all mags work in all guns and all guns will work with all mags.
That was kinda Mr. K's point with that AK. My Saigas are set up for AK mags.

If by any chance, you do decide to go with Rebuild Kits, here's a direct link to the AK Mags currently in stock here at Cope's. We charge $1.00 per mag to disassemble them and will ship as many mags as you would like to order on one order for a flat rate shipping fee of $7.95. If you do decide to go this route, just give me a call. Geri @ Cope's 1 866 523 2673 or 1 866 775 9466 9-5pm E.S.T. http://www.copesdistributing.net/index.php?cPath=32_34_80

If not, how do you know that the converted 10/30 is terrible? Is it metal?I'm not sure if it jams with my converted 10/30 steel mag, I only used it once.
My camera battery's dead so no pic of my mag for a while.
I've put maybe 100-200 through it over Thanksgiving.
No other AKs.
My 10/30 mag is metal. It's terrible because they riveted a plastic block into it but kept the original 30 round spring: It's impossible to load more than six rounds and that takes a lot of pushing.

If it isn't the magazine then I'll just call Lancaster and ***** at them, it won't be the first time.
