LOL. Wow they talk about Arnold wanting to turn California into a dictatorship, but it is ok to ban the voice of the people, particularly intiatives? Mr Reiner YOU are the dictator. Just heard it today on kcal-9 news (for us southern folk).

I haven't heard what he said, but I don't have much faith in the initiative system. Initiatives are too often a "majority rules" mentality and easily negated by court challenges. And they let the legislators off the hook too often by allowing them to pass the buck instead of taking responsibility for their legislative ideas.

It's great for lobbyists and lawyers, though.

I personally think that the current initiative system will be the undoing of California. I think all initiatives should be up for renewal every 5 - 10 years.

My 2 cents

most states do not have an initiative system. I'm not sure it's such a good idea always.

Funny how Robby boy seemed to like it just fine a few years ago when he was the front man for increased tobacco taxes.

I think the initiative process is the only hope we have to prevent the state legislature from becoming even more of a legislarchy (a legislative monarchy). And with the way districts are drawn, don't expect a major shift in it's makeup in our lifetimes...

Initiatives will sometimes work against you, but that's life. Without it, among the initiatives we wouldn't have: prop 13 (insanely higher prop. taxes), Border Police (current), Prop 187, car tax, any AW repeal, RKBA, etc. Some people said California's governor recall process was going to cause complete anarchy. Um, we did get Arnold, but hey, at least he's no Gray Davis.

Now we have a chance of getting some things into law that the legislature would never, never, never even consider.

Could you ever imagine the state legislature even proposing an RKBA amendment?
