View Full Version : Moving to Vegas...what to buy?

Like the title says Im moving to Vegas for 3 years to finish school. I already have plans on 30rnd mags for my AR, but after that Im stumped on what to get. There are so many options and every time I think about one rifle/handgun/shotgun another one gets my attention, I am leaning more towards centerfire rifles at this point. I want something I would have to register if I were to ever move back, you know what I mean. Don't want to waste an oppertunity never know what crazy bill will be coming down the pipe line next.

What would you get? 2000 dollar price range, not including optics.

damn, too bad you're gonna have to bring it back. Cuz on the top of my list is a BCM 11.5" barrel with a 10" Daniel Defense Lite Rail.

CCW classes, nice carry set up would be first on my list.
Loading up on toys that will be illegal back in Calif doesn't make much sense, if you know what I mean.

Moving to Vegas...what to buy?
Buy whatever you please that you can afford. There's little you can't own here.

Congratulations on being approved to travel beyond the wall that separates the PRK from the rest of the world. ;-) You might begin with any hi-cap mags for stuff you already own.

Can't register out of state AW's in CA. If coming back to CA, then I wouldn't buy anything that you couldn't bring back or have to alter to be legal. I moved back to CA from Vegas but my guns stayed in NV.:(

That very sad to hear, but are the hi cap mags good to bring back?

I can't give you a certain answer on that but i would say they would have to be disassembled to be legal.

as parts only unless you previously possessed hicap mags prior to 2000 and are rebuilding those.

M11/9.
Don't move back into CA.

I can give you an answer.* The answer is no. It is illegal to import magazines with a capacity of over 10 rounds into CA unless you meet a specific exception. Moving in from another state is not such an exception.

*I am not your lawyer. I am not giving you any legal advice.

what shouldn't you buy? you can buy anything there pretty much. you can get a permit to own full auto weapons. get everything you can afford, and stay there until our idiotic laws are reapealed and we're finally treated with the respect an American citizen deserves!!!! (who knows, that could be soon!!!!!)

I believe off-roster handguns can be legally be imported if you fill out the proper DOJ forms? I don't know if that is true or not but IF it is, I'd load up on handguns.

There's no permit.
You just have to pay the $200 transfer tax and have the sheriff sign your form 4. ;)

Buy handgun that are not on the roster.

Not to sound like a fan boy or anything but after buying my 1911 I don't feel a NEED to get another handgun off of the roster, that m11/9 would be reason enough not to move back to CA. So it has come down to a AR-10 build or a very nice bolt action rifle. Chances are almost 100% of me moving back to CA after school.

Meet a nice girl who's NOT from CA.
Move back to her home state after school.
Take the M11/9 with you.
Live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, given your budget and need to bring it back, anything you'd get there would need to be the same you could own here.

If you could stay or were willing to sell when you leave, I'd get a MG and suppressor.

What to get? How about anything you want.

Lucky.... :(

Buy something full auto. Then buy anything but a handgun on a FTF deal. You still have to blue card your handguns so unless you live outside Clark County, buying a handgun FTF is a waste.

Then get your CCW and practice rapid double taps. Anything goes in Vegas. Serious man. Find some BLM land and blow sh*t up.

If you were planning to stay I would say put supressors on all your handguns and rifles, and I would get full auto/burst lowers for all your ARs.

dont come back, get NFA goodies

One class of Title 2 (NFA) firearms you can acquire and legally bring back to CA are AOWs.

So, get a few of those and bring them back. Some may need modifications prior to entering CA, in order to comply with the assault weapons laws.

Only if you are looking to become a felon.

Uzi. They cost around $700 out of state last time I checked... and around $1,300 here.

Im the exact opposite. Im moving from Vegas BACK to CA and wondering which guns to buy before I come back. AR is already configured and good to go with an OLL and BB is on the way. Already have a bunch of prebans that I owned in CA before 2000. Already have my CCW and a good amount of pistols.

All my time here I never really got into NFA because the idea of moving back to CA was always in the back of my mind. That and they are pricey. I wish I would have had the money to spend 15k on a class 3 m16 or MP5, or hell even 4k on a Mac11. Supressors, while cool, really didn't excite me much. I went rabbit hunting with plenty of guys who had tons of NFA goodies. Full auto, supressed MP5s and M16's. but eh....
But the laws here are fairly straight forward. Only a 3 day wait on your first gun, then once you get your first blue card you can go in and buy and walk out with it a few mins later.

AR PISTOL!!! Just make sure it's built and have it transfered to an FFL in California.

Just do your research and find out what California cannot sell but can own. I thought my M&P was illegal to own here but it turns out they can't sell it here (no safeties) but I could bring it here if I had less than a 15 round magazine for it.

If he's moving back all he needs to do it make sure it has a round round and mag lock. The when he gets here just use the new resident form.

No FFL needed.

Make that a "less than 11 round mag". ;)

Buy a whole lot of non-CA roster handguns. Sell a few when you move back here.

SBR and a nice suppressor to go with it.

SBR and a nice suppressor to go with it.

Thats $400 and about 6 months wait time on top of the purchase of it.

however if you were in Reno I'd know someone selling both.

I sorry for the delayed responses, I was at work. The SBR ar seems to be the best option at this point with the pistol conversion for when I return to CA. But I thought that the lower has to be stamped pistol in order for it to qualify as such.

Yes, like some have said, get out while you can.

On my list would be the CCW class, then getting some full auto gear ;-)

There is no legal requirement for AR Pistols to have their lower recievers marked as "Pistol".

Keep in mind, current process time for a Form 1 or 4 is around six months. So, you may have only 1-2 years to play with it before having to get rid of it.

When you move to Vegas, locals that travel to California will buy your 10 round magazines or trade you for high cap ones because they don't want to go to jail when visiting CA.

I dont know why but this made me LMAO

I second the vote that you spend that 2K$ wine-ing and dining a girl and then stay in Vegas, or whatever non cali state she is from. If I could spend $2k to have a reason to never come back to cali, haha, well, I would spend that $2k

That idea is out of the window, im married but on the plus side :D only way she would take pic is if she could have her finger on the trigger so I stuck a bore flag in so people will only have a mild heart attack instead of a full blown one when looking at the pic.
