View Full Version : AR15 stocks dont feel good

So I have been really debating about what Rifle to get and every time I think I decide on an AR15 I go and find one to hold and feel...and I HATE the way the stocks feel. I have only held ARs with Magpul MOEs or lesser stocks and I am wondering if there are more sturdier (heavier?) stocks that I might like. I dislike the standard A2 stocks looks so plz don't suggest that. I really like the M1s and FALs that I have looked at lately and don't mind their weight, but the ARs just feel flimsy because of the stocks and such...advice?

I like the DD M4 Carbine but hate that stock....how much better does an UBR feel? I am 6'3 and about 300 lbs, ex-lineman so I am a pretty big guy. Thanks

I haven't used a UBR, but have tried a M93. The UBR uses the same concept as the M93 with the static cheekweld. In my opinion the M93 provided the same comfortable cheekweld as an A2 or A1 stock with the exception of length of pull adjustability.

What about these from Rock River Arms?

I agree, some AR15 stocks just look flimsy, cheap and unsubstantial.

The UBR is solid. Look into the SOPMOD stock too.

You are a pretty big guy, so a 14.5 or 16 inch AR is going to look like a little toy in your hands. I would go at least the 18" SPR style or longer route if you like the feel and weight of larger rifles like the M1's and FAL's.

Something sexy and beefier like these...

Has to be plum though... all the other colors are uncomfortable

UBR is awesome, but a bit heavy. The ACS is a good in-betweener.

the beauty of AR's is they are completely customizable. They're the 10/22's of the centerfire world. You can do just about anything to them to make them look/feel however you want.

you can do this:

ok, not a real Assault Nailgun, but you get my point

you can even do this if you really wanted:

though i'm not sure why the hell anyone would want to.....(it is a real working rifle too!! google hello kitty ar-15)

what it really all boils down to is this though:

you'll find something you like. if not, you're not looking hard enough!!!

The plastic felt cheap and the stocks were flimsy as in, I can feel that they are loose. I know they are adjustable but I want a stock that feels tight even to the point of it not being adjustable without tools.

nice weapons Outlawdon. I like the more tactical look but maybe that is what I should be looking into more.

I suspect you will like the UBR it is pricey but more solid... BUT having said that the AR style rifle is not supposed to feel like a solid boat anchor but a light weight rifle to take into a battle...

No prob. What do you mean by more tactical? Please explain and we can guide you better.

Here's a couple of great guides...

I'm 5'11" 285 and the M4 set up feels like a toy to me, doesn't mean though I don't have any. I like the mid-length set up, that is comfortable and works well for me. Though I must admit the FAL I have is a pretty beefy rig and I like the feel of it, very ergonomic and a good shooter when it works.

The CTR is basically the MOE with a "friction lock" it locks down and makes it VERY sturdy I love the CTR stocks but thats just me im also only 5'7 and a lean mean 155 :p haha. Seriously though like some others said you can make the AR to fit you just fine, I prefer the solid feel of M1a's and garands as well so don't feel bad get what feels best to you but don't throw the AR idea out the window yet. There are plenty of options for ya!

The ACS feels awesome. Very comfortable cheek weld and rock solid lock up.

Then this. You dislike how it "looks"? It is not a Gucci bag.

Have you actually tried an A1/A2 stock? Is your rifle supposed to be functional or tacticool? If the former then your first statement doesn't make sense. If the latter then the first doesn't.

The A1/A2 stock is more natural than any cool stock when your bring your gun up to your shoulder and actually shoot it.

Felt the same way. SOPMOD for me all the way. Its very comfortable, very tight with no rattle
