definately possible. a good complete upper will run you about 700-800, and 50-60 for LPK, and not too much for a stock/buffer. you should stick around in the for sale forum, lots of great deals

$60 for a lower parts kit is fair they can be found cheaper but shipping is always a factor. An $1100 dollar budget is plenty of money to build one with iron sights.

Most lower parts kit are virtually identical. I can only comment on the ones I used before (DPMS bubble plastic wrapped package), and it is very crisp trigger, parts fit right in.

I have put together about a dozen lowers this year for myself and others. The LPKs have been DPMS, mixed parts (mostly from Olympic), a no-name kit from a random distributor online, and Anvil Arms. I have had a few problems with the trigger guard roll pin on a few of the DPMS kits, but not all. The best triggers were on the Anvil Arms kits. AA also seemed to have the most consistant and easiest roll pins. But it really doesn't matter too much. If you see one for a much lower price someplace, you may as well grab it. Getting the kits together just takes a bit of practice. Trust me, by your 3rd or 4th one, it will be easy. And believe me, there will be a 3rd or 4th one sooner or later. Stick to the lower priced stuff for the things that don't matter as much, like the LPK and buffer tube set up. They tend to be pretty much the same, and don't matter all that much for your overall perfomance. That way you have extra money to spend on the stuff that does matter, like a good upper and optics. Also, do a search on here for "cheapest build". It comes up fairly often, and those thread usually have in-depth information on where to skimp on your build, and where to put the extra money to get the better performance.

I went with a Rock River Arms LPK from riflegear.com on my spikes lower. which i guess was made by KD who also made the calguns lowers... the LPK went in flawlessly. everything fit perfect. Also kinda off topic but wanted to give riflegear a thumbs up.. my package was at my house within two days of ordering... which i did at like 0100 haha. have fun with your build. i wish i wouldve made it down there to pick one up at $99

You posted twice.

But what do you plan on doing with your AR? That will determine what kind of upper you need.

If you want something cheap, Model 1 Sales and Del Ton have rifle kits for about $500 or something like that.

But I would suggest going with a CMMG, RRA or Stag upper. Maybe a DPMS. Or you could splurge a lil and go for a BCM, LMT, DD, or a gas piston upper.

And a $1100 budget is not bad at all. This is what I would do:

135 lower
70 RRA lpk
25 P50 bb
55 Magpul MOE stock
50 buffer assembly
450 BCM upper
150 bolt carrier group
20 charging handle
? rear sight of your choice

Unless you're getting a $150 rear sight, these should keep you under your $1100 budget.

Forget Model1!!

Normal price on a complete Armalite chrome lined upper is $500. With the 12 days of Christmas they have going on right now you can (could have) get a non-chrome lined one for $350ish and ill take a guess and bet they put up the chrome lined ones for about $400 like they did on the T-Day sale. Ill put Armalite on the same level as any top tear MFG. Not to mention they did invent the M16 when Stoner worked there so they might know a thing or two.

I am bias though, as ive owned a few Aramlite products in my time. :D

If I do move forward with an AR (will definitely get a CGN lower though), I'd want gas piston.
