Considering buying a .458 RRA AR but don't want to run into any hassles about having a High Cap magazine. Believe the STD 30 Round 5.56 magazine only accepts 10 .458 rounds.

I had the same issue with my .450 Bushmaster. I use single-stack followers instead of double-stack and have the magazine labelled with the calliber. With the single stack follower it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to accidentally load the wrong ammo. The single stack followers are the blue ones from Bushmaster. Yes the 30 rounders will only hold 10 .458 rounds.

My 2 cents, go with the .450 bushmaster ammo is half the cost and easier to find. But the .458 is a bad *** round and you will have alot of fun shooting with either one.

Just pick up some single stack followers and you're good to go. The single stack followers will not allow .223/5.56 to be loaded into the mag so there wont be any issues with possible high cap mags.

Hoffmang has said a few times there is no issue on this. Use the 5.56 mags and throw a label on them that says "10 rounds .458 socom".

The fact they accept another type of ammo is not your problem when you are using them with the .458 upper in a legal config.

Just buy .458 Socom magazines that are marked as such.

Yep. Just label the mag. I have inquired about this issue before and IIRC both Bill and Gene responded with what The Director just posted. You can legally purchase a .458 mag, have a regular follower in it and load it up with .223/5.56 and be A-ok. Its not your fault that they fit in there.

Just to be extra cautious though, at least have a .458 socom upper.
