Are unassembled or disassembled high capacity magazines illegal to possess and or import into California? There are a lot of 30 round rebuild kits that one can order but what if you buy the kit an leave it unassembled? (until the day the SHTF).

Purchase of hicap mag parts for legal purposes (i.e, repair of hicaps or used for construction of lower-cap 10rd magazines) is legal.

So having all the parts to build any high cap mag is legal as long as they are not assembled? Sorry to be redundant.

To repair a pre-ban high cap mag is legal. :)

To build a hi-cap magazine is illegal. These kits you refer to are for rebuilding existing hi-cap mags. I don't know if I'd be telling people that I want to have the kits around "just in case" the SHTF. Your intent appears to be for the purposes of building mags in the future.

Just my $.02

what you asked is 100% legal. assembling a hi cap mag is 100% illegal. however, using new parts to rebuild your legally possessed hi cap is 100% legal. (just make sure you're also using it in a legal firearm)

i have some 30 rebuild kits for my 10/30 mags, as far as i know its legal as long as the hicap isn't assembled.

Maybe safer to say "Until the day they are once again legal in this state". ?

Parts kits are legal period. Unless you assemble into new magazines in California. Your motivations for owning the parts are irrelevant. Don't over analyze it.
