I bought this on Gunbroker, it is said to be an Israeli officers retirement gift, chambered in 7.62, kind of an oddball.

Yes, don't know alot about it, the stock looks brand spanking new I guess to match the new finish on it.

It's my understanding the Israelis bought a lot of 98Ks and had them rechambered in .308 in the early days so they would have a sufficient stockpile to give everyone a rifle if the SHTF. It's a very basic rifle that didn't require a lot of training to use.

I was watching that auction.

I've seen another 98K that was represented as an Israeli presentation rifle that looked near identical, but I don't know the provenance of either rifle.

I have heard about these Israeli retirement rifles, I just have no idea if they are the real deal or just decently marketed fakes.
