Can you still purchase these rifles in the PRK? And if so what's the average going price for one?

I'll trade ya one for that upper http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You usually see the cheaper ones for sale from $170-250 (CA retail) based on what I have seen. Distributors in other states have used ones for as little as $89.

We bought some from InterOrdnance (http://calguns.net/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/5986098711/m/4546074355/p/1) and that ended up being a bit of a PITA, particularly for our FFL.

If yo shop around you can still find the fixed 10 round mag guns for under 200, in pretty decent shape.

Big 5 Sporting Goods has a sale on some Yugo's this week: "Yugoslav M59/66 SKS, 7.62x39mm Soviet, muzzle brake, GL sight, folding bayonet, condition Good, $150".

I have not seen them myself, so I can not personally comment, but I am pissed because I just got an SKS last week for $220 (although it was a Russian)... if only I had known.

$220 is not bad for a Russian.

I got that information from this site: http://www.iguanasoft.com/~jeffersonian/big5.html

I have not been able to get down to my local Big 5 to confirm this, but this guy has been accurate in the past. He updates it every Sunday evening with that weeks deals.

SKS rifles are CA Legal, as long as it doesn't have a over 10 round magazine, detachable magazine and gernade launcher.

If you modify them, you are subject to section 922.

I shot my Yugo M59 last weekend in a indoor rifle range, the 7.62 x 39mm boom out of my SKS was just a bit less than the dude shooting a M1A, next to me. I'm happy.http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Several locations: http://www.turners.com/turners/stores.php I wish they had one in Santa Clarita or the Antelope Valley.

If you had known that the Yugo rifles do not have a chrome bore (like your Russian does) and that "good" condition Yugos can have fairly nasty bores, would you feel any different? $220 for a Russian, if in VG or better, is a deal.

Ahhh..yogo's don't have chrome bores. That's good to know. I guess I'll do a little research and decide which one I'll get.

Anyone know how the Big5 59/66s have the grenade launcher issue fixed? Cut off or sleeved?

$150 is a pretty darn good deal. Maybe they will carry 59s next, I'd really be interested then.

Shrek said they have muzzle breaks. Any way I just got back from the Big 5 in Lancaster. I did not see any SKS rifles and the only milsurp I saw in their ad was the MN M44 for $75.

I worked at Big 5 for two years. Cali Big Five's DO NOT sale SKS's. Just out of state stores.(I also talked to them today. http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif)

Yep, only the out-of-state Big 5s sell SKS's. Pity, really.

Sportsmen's Supply in Campbell gets Yugos in regularly for $180 - some are in very good condition, and some less so.

Chinese tend to go for $250 and up, and all the Russians I've seen this year have been in the $350 and up range(!).

The Yugos are almost always covered in cosmo, and it takes some time and effort to clean them up. I'd personally pay an extra $40 for a clean Chinese over a cosmo's Yugo, but that's just me...

All the Yugo's

I don't believe they're C&R eligible in the state unless they're OVER 50 years old. SKS's are on the C&R list BUT I believe in CA it also has to be at least 50 years old for it to qualify in state along with not being an assault weapon.

Exactly right.

That Turners M59 is a photoshopped image, the M59 doesn't have the grenade launcher ladder sight, nor does it have the grenade-launcher-looking muzzle http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I work at Big 5, and all we've got is semi-auto .22s like the 10/22 and Remi 597. No SKSs. There's Enfields, Schmidt-Rubins, and various Mosins and Mausers.

Exactly wrong. This is a common misconception. If it is not over 50 years old then it cannot be shipped to an 03 FFL but it is still C&R. If you have a C&R and a COE you can walk into a store, pay for it, DROS it, and take it home the same day.
