I want to get myself a 1911 for my 21st birthday. Are the rules such that I could start dros 10 days before my birthday so that I could take delivery on my birthday? In that case I would not have it in my possession until I was 21 so would that be kosher? I'd hate to have to wait 10 days to open my present :chris:

I had the same question some 13 years ago. I was made to wait the ten painful days after my birthday to pick up my first pistol. In fact I am waiting for one right now:chris:

You have to be 21 to purchase a handgun from a dealer. So if your 1911 was DROS'ed before your 21 that would not be kosher. So you would have to wait till your actual bday to DROS your 1911 and pick it up 10 days later.

I am pretty sure the DROS software will reject you if you are not 21. Wait until you are 21. Technically you are probably supposed to be 21 by the minute, but since they don't ask for the time of your birth on DROS, you might be fine.

Personally, if it were me, I would wait one day and not risk losing $25. You have a whole life of handgun purchases ahead of you, one day won't kill you.
