I'm in the market for some rear iron sights for an AR-15 midlength. Will be used with a standard A2 front sight post.

Looking for cheap stuff with good quality. The detachable carry handles and Magpul rear sight are in my budget, which is around $60 or less.

Any other sights I should be looking at?

And are the sub $60 carry handles any good, or is it airsoft stuff? I've seen some go for $30 on the for sale forum. One was CAA. Are these good enough quality for .223?

+1, thats probably your best quality at the amount you wanna spend. Typically a good carry handle will be at least $80 and a rear iron sight would be over $100. I have the LMT stand alone sight and its great. I wouldnt buy one of those sights for $30. You get what you pay for. Do it right the first time;)

Didn't know about the DD A1.5. Looks nice.

How would you guys compare it to the Magpul sights? I am assuming the Magpuls work fine, but any advantages or disadvantage?

I can get the Magpul ones at my local gun store for a bit less than the DD A1.5. With tax, I can probably get it for $60 new.

I anticipate some problems already. You need to have a F-marked A2 FSB if you have a "flat-top" A4 upper. The A2 FSB is meant to be used in conjunction with an A2 rear sight.

You now have two options:

1) Replace FSB w/ a F-marked - $29 @ BCM

2) Retrofit A2 FSB with a taller front sight post

My upper is a CMMG 16" 1/7 twist mid length.

The front sight post is marked "F" on the left, and I think it says <B>1 on the right.

Considering this, which sights am I good to go with?

I'll get some pics of the front sight post in just a minute.

In that case, you're all GTG.

Now about the rear sight, it all depends on what type of shooting you're doing. I have a Aimpoint T1 on my LMT, so I use a folding rear sight. For my other AR, I only use iron sights, so I went with a fixed LMT sight. It's pricey, but one of the best.

Crappy cell phone pics, can't even see it very well.

If everything is good, then I guess it is either the Magpul or DD A 1.5.

I am just using iron sights, no scopes or optics.

I can't tell exactly, but it looks like it is F-marked.

I think the majority of Magpul owners bought into the hype. Not only are they plastic (airsoft), but they are not even adjustable for elevation. The only advantage they have over the folding sights is the push-button. The reason these sights are referred to as "back-up" sights is that they are not meant to be used in place of fixed iron sights or an optic.

If you're just plinking & not using your AR for CQB/SHTF, a good set of rear sights will go along way. Being able to adjust for both windage and elevation with the rear sight will improve your accuracy and allow you to get sub-MOA.

Just a thought.

Thanks to everyone who posted, especially rct442. I found that very helpful. I assumed the Magpul sights had elevation. Good thing you cleared that up.

Like the FAL to.

i had the magpul rear sight before, and it was nice for the price. I have an Aimpoint H1 and really like the fixed rear sight behind it. Its just a personal preference i guess. for me the fixed sight does it.

Plus its super light.
