Im going to ditch my Fab Defense quad rail and go with some Fat M4 style handguards. The light I am thinking of going with is the surefire G2 and I have a couple questions, Does the G2 have a pressure switch and is it a good light? How can I mount to the light to the handguard? I don't want to run a mount under my FSP I want it offset to the side of the handguard I have seen it on M4's but not sure of what mount is used. Also any of you guys ever run a AR in a tactical class with just the regular M4 style fat handguards? I don't like running a VFG very much and I feel more comfortable with a regular handguard, I have rail covers now but I don't see a point the way im running my AR it's kind of useless and I like the way the M4 handguards look :p .

You can use the Midwest Industries FSB rail - only $35 (http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=94)... not sure about that light, haven't used one.

You can get rails that mount to an M4 handguard, and can them mount a light mount on that.
http://www.mountsplus.com/miva/merchant.mvc?page=MSP/CTGY/Add-A-Rail-System

Mounted that far back, you're going to get some shadowing from the rail and barrel. I like mine mounted further up front (the Elzetta's an option for that as well), but it's personal preference.

The G2's OK as a gun light, but mounts are more limited than a 6P or Fenix TK11.

- G2 comes with a twisty switch. You can buy a pressure switch, but they're fairly expensive - nearly as much as the light. I don't like pressure switches, and prefer clickies, but that's also personal preference.

- The G2 body is 1.03" in the middle, slightly larger than the standard 1" body on most tac lights. A standard 1" mount may be too small (depending on the design), and you have to look for mounts that specifically fit the G2.

- The standard G2 is xenon, the G2L is LED - this is what you want. The runtime on the G2L (and 6P) are not great, and the color on my Surefire LED drop-ins isn't great - they're a little blue for my taste.

Personally, I prefer the Fenix TK10 or TK11, as it's got dual outputs (60 lumens, like the G2L and 6P, and 240 lumens), has much better runtime and regulation, and comes with a clickie switch. It's got a pressure switch available that's inexpensive, but I don't know how reliable they are.

Anyway, a G2L will work fine with the right mount - I ran one on my 12 gauge for a bit, but I like the TK11 more.

i might just be static on the thread, i know you want the std forend, but hear me out... if you already have the quad rail and covers, then what i have, and like very much, is the streamlight (now insight) m3. you can mount it on the (note im right handed) left side and operate it with your thumb when using the traditional grip, and then mount it on the right and use your thumb with a vfg. adjustable beam, momentary and constant settings (depending on which way you flick the switch), 7/8 of the weight is the batteries, no mounts to buy, its $100, and with the quad rail, the light shines straight forward instead of being canted with the handguard. my 2, and thats all its worth. but hey, thats what i like.

Oh, okay - in your original post you said "under the FSP", so I that's why I linked to the side-mount, which is "offset to the side of the hand guard". Good luck!

Sorry for the misunderstanding! I'm not set on the G2 it just looked like a nice light for the money, I am looking for ANY affordable light that can handle a tactical carbine class and SHTF ready that can easily be mounted to my weapon. Also as far as keeping the rail goes, Well I don't necessarily need it and it's a bit more hefty and unbalanced than I would like. Besides I like the look of the original M4 handguards and the feel and if I sell my quad rail I can buy my M4 handguards and possibly get a light and attachment.

There are several G2 LED's at our house. Two are on AR middies in Vltor offset mounts and another in a Viking mount. The G2 LED's are good , tough , economical lights that meet our needs well. The tail cap momentary switches work well for us-- with either thumb or knuckle ( I have two lights on my middie ) .
Hope that helps.

Thing is I need a way to attach it to a regular M4 fat handguard because I'm ditching the rail system.

In addition to the link I posted above, MI makes rails for standard handguards in a couple of configurations:
