View Full Version : Which wooden stock for an SKS?

So, I have this old SKS. Not worth much, but hey, I love all guns. It has a POS synthetic stock and I would like to restore it to a more natural look. Realizing of course the stock may be more than the rifle is worth, what would you guys suggest as a nice piece of wood for this thing? Links would be great. As always, thanks in advance.

I think SKS look best with the original wood stock. Cole Distributing http://www.coledistributing.com/ has new stocks for 8 bucks. I bought 2 and they were new wrapped in the original paper, complete with metal parts on the stock.

What type of SKS? Russian, Romy, Chinese? It'll matter if you want to include the bayonet - the stocks in the link provided above are for SKS's with spike bayonets (e.g. Chinese). If you have a blade bayo, then you wouldn't be able to install it on the Chinese stock.
I found a nice Russian (unissued) on eBay, but they also can be found on Gunbroker. This guy also has them from time to time http://www.buymilsurp.com/sks-rifle-parts-accessories-sks-original-rifle-parts-c-6_8.html?zenid=863c0569dedaed7e1888cce0ef7eb903
