Im looking to get a 308 rifle with a 1-12 twist barrel, would 145gr and 150gr shoot fine for 100yds target?

Those should shoot fine in that barrel, but Im sure that you could go at least up to 175gr with no problems. You should just buy a bunch of different weight bullets and try them out. I have a 1-10 twist for my .308 AR and I use everything from 110gr to 178.

Do you reload? 155gr Lapua Scenars will work great at 100 yards and even all the way out to 1k yards. Sierra Matchkings will work great too. I have been having great results with 175gr Matchkings over 44.4gr of Varget.

Just starting out in the sport, so no reloading for now. Thanks for the advice, I'll give a bunch of different ammo/gr and see which one shoots the best. Gun store was telling me to stay with 168gr match for the best results, any truth to that? What about 7.62 NATO and M80 ammo, worth a try or better off staying away?

Thanks

High quality match ammo is more readily available in that bullet weight, although you can find 175 gr. match ammo as well. Military stuff will go bang, but will not yield the best accuracy.

well than my apologies for not being able to buy precision ammo at all times.

50rds of magtech for the price of 20rds of many precison ammo just doesnt go for me. and i can still squeeze sub moa out of it. im not competing with anyone but me and my friends.
