View Full Version : THE LAST GUN I'M EVER BUYING...

... This month. I swear, this is the last gun I'm buying in October, 2009.

After those two elephant guns, I swore I would not DROS another gun this month -- but then found the gun of my Junior High School dreams...

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p54/Fasanoland/300wbyrocksprofile.jpg

Ever since I was a kid and my friend Andrew Batten and I poured (and drooled) over the Weatherby catalog, I've had a soft spot in my heart (and my shoulder) for a 300 WBY Mark V --
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p54/Fasanoland/300wbyleftside.jpg

Eleven days ago found this 1969 German made Mark V in a local gun store -- it looked 98% (with an old Leupold Vari X 3-9) but to tell you the truth I didn't look THAT close, but it didn't matter. I've bird dogged Mark Vs at even Bienfeld Vegas gun show. This looked better than any I'd seen sitting there for almost $2K.

I reached for my wallet and thought, "accountant be damned! I can always sell one of my LMTs -"

It had just been sold to them for an incredibly low price and I immediately bought it for only a ridiculously low price, and then my friend Richard kicked in by gifting me with 20 BOXES of 180 grain 300 WBY ammo he had in storage and no gun to shoot them.

California waiting period was up today, and I took some happy snaps before I brought her home... Now, NO MORE GUNS in November -- Scout's honor!
(that's an M1-A Scout, not a Boy Scout)

Hey man, you can't put a price on happiness. It's your money, spend it on something that makes you happy.

Thanks! Kind of seriously, I feel like I can stop buying rifles now.

And start selling the others I bought because I couldn't find this one before.
You got a wish list, PM me!

BTW Newsweek has the MOST insulting article about why people are buying guns in the wake of Obama -- as "fear CREATED by FOX News"
They really don't get it. do they?

You know I have been seeing alot of your post about all the great guns you have been buying and that you own and it brought a though. If I had your money to spend on guns and ammo I would burn my money.:p

You should talk to my old man, he has a couple mark V's and a pair of Sako's (pre garcia?) he is looking to sell.

I wish I had money! These are mostly loaners that I have to DORS and I keep a select few -- I get to own them for a year -- but this Weatherby I actually bought with money from the stimulous package...

Beautifull rifle thats for sure.

Thanks. So many new factory rifles have plain wood
The manufacturers tell me they're running out of good wood
Unless you pay "custom" prices

good god your pockets must be as deep as the US governments. And thats definitely a kicker. I shot my buddies like 3 times and that was enough. Had to switch back to the .22 after that lol.

I've done that a few times. Then I catch myself searching Calguns, Buds, and Gunbroker even though I have other guns waiting to be picked up from gun prison.

Beautiful rifle btw. People seem to have forgotten how pretty wooden stocks can be.

The first center fire rifle I fired was my Grandfathers Mark V in .257 WM. at the range that was (still is?) in Azusa canyon (I think thats where it was).

Miss you Grandpa:(

You got a serious problem.......Step 1 is to admit you have a problem.
Step 2.......give your problem to me:D

Seriously, that is a beautiful rifle. That stock looks like you'll find something different in the grain everytime you look at it.
Awsome pics as always.

And a really good looking one, judging from the too dark pictures -- but a JAPANESE made one and was always lusting after a pre-70 German one, or I would have bought "in-house"

Beautiful rifle!

Those nickle plated cases are sweet too. Save 'em and reload, they are worth quite a bit.

I also have a .300Wby in a Colt Sauer.

Love that .300 Wby!

Looks very nice, just enough flair to be spotted as a Weatherby but not overdone with inlays, scooped grip and high gloss stock.

Supposedly they kick like mules, but that stock design just means "California Rifle" to me.
