Imagine : the California's assault weapon/firearm banned is lifted tonight and you can now buy what was before not available to us.
Ak/47-desert eagle 50.cal -- tec-9 -- Uzi's ( skys the limit )

What would be the first firear you would buy?

I would buy a bushmaster ar-15 and then cash in my sons college fund to get an Eotech holographic site to go with it oh and some c4 for the 4th of july.

Nothing. I'm flat broke. But I would take off the BB on my ARs and AK, and FAL.

oh, and the Desert Eagle .50cal is not illegal; just have to buy the .44mag first, then convert it.

ETA: C4 is an explosive, so that's banned by ATF already.

All kidding aside, what I don't understand is why CA just doesn't create a special tax stamp for the banned ones and builds with features. There are a lot of people who would pay a good chunk of money for this. Not that I want extra taxes but it would be a short term win for us (get the toys we want) and them (more revenue in the perpetually broke state). Heck they're talking about legalizing pot why not tax us extra and give us a choice of OLL featureless builds or pay extra for the toy we really want.

I don't know how I maintain this optimistic facade?

On the surface it sounds not unreasonable, but when you think about it... how much fun would it be to spend $500 on an AK build and have to pay a $500 tax to keep it legal?

Because you know Sacramento would look at the ATF $200 tax stamp and figure "Oh, that's been around for 10 years so we have to allow for inflation"

Nothing, because it will never happen.

Okay, CGB. Who **** in your wheaties this morning? You've been registered with CalGuns for two years and you haven't been following the progress? Go ask for a pep talk in the Second Amendment forum, you surely could use one. I'm sure the folks "in the know" would be happy to oblige.

FN FAL .308 That was the gun I wanted before the ban went into effect.

You want a factory FN FAL, or a FAL clone? You can get a factory made FAL from DSA or Springfield that aren't named and have no features. Receivers and built up rifles are available at Entreprise, located here in California and nothing is stopping you from putting together your own from parts. It doesn't have to be a dream!!

I would buy more magazines, LOTS more magazines. I didn't buy near enough before the ban on importation. I would fill in my collection of guns to match mags I bought, sten, sterling mk4, suomi, boyes rifle, etc.

You do realize that BS law has been on the books since 1934 right? Link (http://www.atf.gov/pub/fire-explo_pub/nfa.htm)

5811. Transfer tax

(a) Rate. -- There shall be levied, collected, and paid on firearms transferred a tax at the rate of $200 for each firearm transferred, except, the transfer tax on any firearm classified as any other weapon under section 5845(e) shall be at the rate of $5 for each such firearm transferred.

First, I'd probably buy an FNC, since there's no clone variant available (and I've wanted one forever), then a couple of real, FN-made FALs, to replace my DSA clone build.

Hell, while we're dreaming, how about one of those semi-auto SAW clones?

I've promised myself I'll get an AK (since I have hicap mags already from the 90s) once the SB23 ban goes - preferably a Hungarian SA85M with the blonde furniture.

With 7 ARs and 2 FALs reg'd as AWs, though, probably don't need much else - maybe an HK91 and SP89 just for giggles.

I agree with those of you who say my tax stamp idea on pg 2 is a crazy/bad idea. Having said that, short of Supreme Court rulings I don't think CA will allow us the semi-autos we all want and can get in most states. Yes, it would suck to have to get something like a $500 tax stamp but at least then you could get what you wanted. As it stands, even with SCOTUS Heller decision, we can't get them. Yes, it would suck to buy a stamp but at least there is an incentive for the legislature.

I hate to be a party-pooper, but -

If the AW Ban goes away, how will we be allowed to buy large-capacity mags, suppressors, or SBR's? To my knowledge, the AW ban is not what prevents us from owning these items.

That being said, I'd like to get an Olympic Arms OA-93, and maybe a single-shot .50 BMG upper. And maybe a SPAS-12; just because.
