Would anyone be interested in having a fun shoot + extra at the Burros Shooting Range? The idea is to get 2 private shooting ranges use one for a general shoot area and the 2nd for a Tactical Advantage Concepts Shooting Event. The TAC portion of the shoot will have a small cost to it (minimal cost) but it will be well worth it. At the general shoot area we will bring a few BBQ's and cook up some food.
This will be a great event and an awesome opportunity to hang out with Calgunners and learn some cool Tactical shooting skills and have some BBQ.

Tactical Advantage Concepts will hold a number of clinics that will range from 1 Ĺ to 2 hours on 3 weapon systems - handguns, shotguns, and rifles. The clinics will focus on basic shooting drills to sharpen speed and accuracy, tactical movement, and intermediate tactical shooting. Depending on how you are planning the event, the clinics will run according to your hours. You mentioned doing a bbq so we can definitely break at that time and allow everyone to eat, hydrate, and rest.

There will be 4 instructors from TAC that will be there from 9am Ė 5pm. Shooters may participate in as many of our clinics as they wish for a flat rate of $25 for the day.

I may be interested for the TAC session, I always like to learn from different shooting schools.

It's a little far away regarding the date so I'm not 100% yet, but damn the Lytle Creek shoot was just way too much fun!

I wish the bays were longer so we can let our rifles stretch its legs out, but a fun day of shooting is tough to pass up. :)

I'm in for the Tacnshoot. Took their carbine shoot and move last week in orange, indoor range. Great way to learn tactical fundamentals. We did barricade shooting left right side and dynamic fire entry if you wanted. Instructors are law enforcement and/or Iraq veterans. Nice intro to tactical shooting for starters like me.

There is no age minimum for the training part. If your 16 year old has never shot before, we'll have to dedicate an instructor in order to show him/her weapons safety and basic marksmanship. If your 16 year old is just going to shoot on the open bay, you'll have to contact Penny's Dad for that. I hope that answers your question.

We will be holding 3 different clinics; 1 pistol, 1 shotgun, 1 carbine. Each will be about 2 hours long and you will be doing a lot of shooting.

As for pistol, we will be working on the draw stroke, combat marksmanship, double taps, failure drills, shooting on the move, tactical and speed reloads, and pivoting. You will need 250 rounds of ammo, 1 pistol, 1 holster, 3 mags, and mag pouch.

For the shotgun clinic, you will be working on combat loading, shooting on the move, pivoting, engaging multiple targets, and switching from buck shot to slug. You will need 1 shotgun, 140 rounds of bird or buckshot and 10 rounds of slug. Side saddles or butt stock shell carriers are recommended but not mandatory. You may also use a dump bag/pouch to load from instead of the side saddle or carrier. Slings are recommended but not mandatory. Walmart is selling 100 rounds of bird shot for about $23.

For the carbine clinic, you will be working on the same drills as the pistol. You will need 1 carbine, 3 mags or more, pouches, and 250 rounds of ammo. Slings are recommended but not mandatory.

Shooters are allowed to wear tactical gear if they want. If there is enough time at the end, we will try to do 1 more clinic that will allow you to combine and apply all the skills we teach during the day. Some targets will be static and non-reactionary and others will fall. This last clinic may happen depending on how fast we can get set up in between other clinics (with the help of shooters), breaks that are taken, and lunch.

Please feel free to PM us with any other questions.

Dec 19th TAC Concepts Shoot and Range Shoot

TAC Shoot or a general shoot on a private range at Burros.
Well we have both. I have secured the
East 1 and 2 private ranges at Burros, one range
will be used for the Tactical Advantage Concepts
shooting clinics and the other for general
shooting. Dec 19th is the date.
The cost will be as such:

$25 per person for the Tactical shooting sessions
plus Ammo
(250 pistol rounds, 150 shotgun, 250 carbine/rifle).
You only need to supply ammo for the session you
will attend, the $25 fee is a flat fee wether you
shoot all the clinics or 1 clinic.

You will need to goto the Burros checkin counter
and pay the range fee $20. The range fee covers
you for the whole day on the private ranges or public.

So fee's will be:

$20 for Burros range fee
$25 for TAC Shoot (only if you will attend the shooting Clinic)

More information will be provided on the public thread.
Please pay the Tactical Advantage Concepts team in advanced if
possible. Contact: (949)606-3281

Does Burros allow BBQ's?

To my knowledge, yes. I've seen a couple people fire up BBQ's at the private berms.

To be honest, you're really on your own. The staff comes by maybe once or twice, but other than that, you could be shooting steel-core stuff and they wouldn't know (not that I'm suggesting that, big fire risk and all).

WOW! Setting up something like this must be a BIG effort. I would really like to make this event, however due to my work schedule I will be unable to attend. Just to clarify. Myself + 2 friends are going to be doing the tac shoot.

The ladies we're bringing will be shooting their guns together, "girl time," on the other range. I'm trying to convince them to take the course!

If I lived in So Cal I'd be there, but alas Im in the the Central Valley :(....some times I question my existence in this place...I cant stand it here...the city is sh*t, When I loved in WA I only had to pop open the sliding glass door on the back of the house and shoot down into the woods (we live on 15 acres of nothing but swamps and private woodland).

This isnt an isolated event, I am working this event to iron out the planning pieces and then I will start working on planning these events or helping others plan these types of events. I cant say when but you will see events closer to you.

First post here...

This sounds like a blast! Could you pencil me in for the pistol and/or shotgun TAC? I think I have everything needed except for magazine holders for the pistol. I could probably pick a couple up next week though. If I'm able to attend I'd definitely do the shotgun TAC, but not yet positive if I want to burn through so many rounds of pistol ammo. Damn stuff is expensive!

I should have a more definite answer of whether I will attend this weekend.

I will be using a tactical vest equipped with mag pouches and pistol holster. But from the order of the event, it sounds like I will be shooting the pistol course, then having to sit out the shotgun course and wait for the rifle course. Hmmm... I don't really want to wait, and I wasn't planing on taking my shotgun. I might have to stop at walmart in monrovia on the way up there and stock up on some shotgun ammo.

We will be running tactical clinics for all 3 weapon systems. Shooters will be allowed to run back and load empty mags. As far as marksmanship, we'll be focusing on combat marksmanship, not basic. Controlled pairs and failure drills will be practiced a lot throughout the day. I hope that answers your questions.

TacticalAdvantageConcepts
12-16-2009, 10:16 PM
No, you don't have to be there at 9am if you aren't participating in the pistol clinic. Below is the tentative schedule for the day. The times for the courses will most likely fluctuate a few minutes depending on the current shooters and how fast we can get the next shooters on the range for the next clinic.

9am - 10am: Range setup, admin/fee collections, instructor introductions, range safety brief

10am - 12pm: Pistol Clinic

12pm - 12:30pm: Break

12:30pm - 2:30pm: Rifle/Carbine Clinic

2:30pm - 4:30pm: Shotgun Clinic

4:30pm - Until Done: Range Clean up and After Action Report

We ask that you show up at our bay 15-20 minutes before the start of the clinic(s) you are participating in so we can take care of admin and resolve any gear or weapon issues you may have.

Also, those who are going to participate in our clinics, please PM me with your name and parties involved and which clinics you are going to take. That way we can put you on our range roster and it will take less time for admin and allow more time for you guys to shoot.

Feel free to contact us with any questions.

I would be up for some informal clays. I would probably be by myself, so I would be willing to trade off throwing clays for others. I use a plastic hand thrower. The american trap birds that I have do not say biodegradable, but they are made out of organic compounds. I just read that the biodegradable birds take up to two years to breakdown and they can have bad effects on the soil PH.
They have a sporting clays course, but it is $30 per hour including one box of clays. Hopefully there is no problem shooting clays on a private range.

take the 210 to Azusa and hang a left (north to the mountains). just follow azusa until you hit mountains and keep going. after about 20 miles you come to a bridge on your right, go right. follow that road for 2 miles (maybe) and eventually you will see an open yellow bar fence on your left and signs for the range. go left. follow that road up. eventually u come to a fork left or right. go left you will be heading to the shooting office to sign in and such so pass the first left and drive up and on the left side you will see buildings. Go check in there. Once you have checked in come back out to the fork left or right and go left we will be up there.

Bring drinks this will be an all day event.
Bring food
Bring a hat
Bring warm clothes that you can layer off as it gets warm.

your going to need all day comfort, they have port o holes for latrine needs and Target stands will b provided if you are going to the TAC shoot, for general shooting you can get target stands from the Range Shack or bring your own stands.

General shooters will handle their own line breaks, the common and expected range personality is "Respect, Safety, Safety, Safety, Fun and No Bull**** with the Guns". Ask questions when unsure and be friendly, everyone else will be.

Its funny but for the mother hating, puppy killing, murderous anarchist that gun owners are made out to be, I have never meet a friendlier and more considerate bunch of folks.

CYA Saturday!

I am making a hitch mount for the BBQ right now.:D
I got some baked beans, and a pot as my BBQ has a side burner.
And I got a 10' folding table, MABY some chairs.

What time do they open the gates there?

Scratch705
12-18-2009, 7:08 PM
they say hours of op is 9-4, but i'm sure they open up the gates earlier, although the check-in might not be open until 9

btw, i would like to ask if i can possibly share a table/tent with someone here? as since i can't fit those items into my sedan.... i can only fit folding chairs.

Hi Scratch, I am bringing a 6' table but do not have an easy up. I will be shooting my mini14 target model from the bench, but I am also taking some pistols and my shotgun for clays. Assuming that you are a considerate and safe shoot, I would be willing to share with you. I saw on your profile that you are into photography also. I have an AS degree in photography and shoot for fun. I will bring my camera. The truck that I'll be driving is an 88 Chevy K5 Blazer, white with 35" tires and a lift. I look forward to meeting you.

It looks like the meat, beans, drinks, etc. are kind of covered. I plan to bring some homemade cookies (mexican wedding cakes, and one other type) that just came out of the oven. I will bring at least enough drinks for myself though, and extras if I have them. I have a couple spinning targets for pistols (2 for 22lr and 1 for up to 40 or 45 cal.) that I could share with others as long as they don't get tore up.

pennys dad
12-18-2009, 8:54 PM
regular folding tables.

CGT80
12-18-2009, 9:02 PM
The table I have is plastic. It's around 6' or so long but it folds in half after the legs fold up, so it only takes 3' of space. It fits easily into a SUV. I have seen similar tables at home depot. A 5 gallon bucket seems close to the right height for me to use a a chair while I bench rest my rifle. We will see. I used a lawn chair before, but it it made my posture wrong for shooting.

The event was awesome, Thanks Chriss & crew for a well organized and conducted training, I was there just for a few minutes but I noticed the professionalism, knowledge and skills of the team.

We have a pretty good crowd today, great weather, lots of guns, tons of ammo, abundant targets and tasty food for everybody, I know this is just the beginning and solid foundation for bigger and better events to come.....Great job Jacob....

I was at the genereal shooting area (I was the RSO w/the infidel shirt) and we have a blast, literally.

WOW! Had the pleasure of attending the Tactical Training today at Burro Canyon. Meet some really nice people. Had some GREAT food. Also, had a great time. Tactical Advantage Concepts did a fantastic job of keeping things under control and handling situations as they came up. I learned a lot. One thing was, that it is harder than it looks moving forward and shooting without stopping.

A BIG Thank you to Pennyís Dad for setting this up! From my perspective it went off without a hitch. Great job!

My friends and I would like to thank Penny's dad and the folks from TAC from setting up this wonderful event. I hope we can do it again some time in the future. I especially want to thank the cook and everyone who did not want to pick up their brass. I think my friends and I made up for all of the brass we did not recover from the Angeles Range over the last few months. :)

For that one fellow who was looking for his .40 S&W brass, I did pick a few of them up. PM me if you would like me to send it to you :).

P.S., I hope my Kel Tec wasn't too noisy for anyone. I took off the "Flash Enhancer" for today's shoot. ;).

The food was great!

I saw a lot of smiling going on today. I did my fair share :) My only regret is that I didn't get to mingle much with the folks at the general shoot because I was in the TAC classes all day. Good Morning Everyone

Well the Calguns / Tactical Advantage Concepts Shoot n Q was a success and it was a success because of everyone that was there and the contribution from every single person and I truly mean that; every person that came added to the success of this event, so Thank you everyone for coming and participating in the growth of our shooting community, supporting of a local shooting range, supporting of a local training group and helping to make this event a success.

Here are some highlights of the successes that came from this event:
Burros Shooting Park management invited us back.
Burros Shooting Park management mentioned that half our number went to the TAC shoot; we had roughly 32 for the TAC so we had maybe 64 members for the event? That’s outstanding!
Tactical Advantage Concepts we fielded 32 members for the TAC and I think we only killed 6 targets :-) (maybe more). 32 members though and no one got a SGT thump to the chest :-)
No one got hurt!
Everyone was feed regardless of how much I could eat!
And everyone had a Great time!

Some special Thanks for some special folks.
Now I may miss some and I sincerely apologize there where so many contributors that I cant remember, So Thank You to Everyone, but here are a few special stand outs.

Tactical Advantage Concepts team for supplying a fun event, Thank you.
Burros Canyon Shooting Park for hosting our event, Thank You.
MrLoneWolf for performing RSO duty at the General Shoot line, bringing RIBS!!, bringing a BBQ!!!, BBQing food!! And just being a great guy, Thank You.
JeepsRCool and Father for rigging a last minute hitch for their BBQ and bringing a 2nd BBQ!!! Bring Beans  to the shoot (I think I saw someone trying to light the methane on fire)!! JeepsRCool’s Dad BBQed alongside MrLoneWolf. Nice meeting you 2. Thank You
Exposed brought burgers, buns, condiments, and more and I lost count after awhile. Thank You
iRighti brought belt feed, turret mounted 1919’s, Very Cool! Thank you
PonchoTA and MMartin and husband for driving from Oxnard and Oceanside. Thank You
Now here is where things get fuzzy for me and I apologize for missing names:
But we had folks bringing hotdogs and sausages by the tons, 12 plus bags of chips, some Excellent cookies :-), enough water and soda to keep everyone hydrated and sugar rushing for 10 hours :-), tables and chairs, EZ Ups and so much more. Thank You everyone.

Well I had a great time and I meet some great folks, I got to take some great trainings and enjoy a great day. Thank you everyone for coming and making this a great day.
Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing everyone at the next event!

Pictures and Video clips will follow.

Well 1st off I would like to thank everyone for getting this together, namely Pennys dad and Chris.

Awsome range and lots of great and friendly people. It was nice to put faces to user screen names, and to see a lot of the toys I have seen pictures of on calguns in action.

iRIGHTi had the belt feds that had me drooling and the .50 that kept kicking up dust clouds. Also got me pointed in the right direction with getting a belt fed. So That is going to be my new project for the new year!

Mxconn was nice enough to let me set up my gear and tent next to theirs after getting there around 11am. Had a fun time watching you guys shoot the bowling pins.

Got to talk with Exposed about the sweet AR pistol he brought.

mrlonewolf thanks for keeping everyone safe down at the calguns range.

Special congrats to the guy to the left of me who had the busted up foot and still managed to toss lots of lead down range. (wished I could remember the name but my mind is drawing a blank)

Met lots of others and look forward to going to the next shoot and meet.

The wife had lots of fun shooting and is lookinf forwards to the next meet as well.

I attended towards the end of the meet(I had to do my armored car firearm re-qualification on the other side of burro canyon that day). I was very impressed....and had a great time. I`m attending again for sure.

Someone got me setting up my stuff in this picture. Im the dude on the right wearing the calguns shirt.

Hi bomb on bus,

I was the guy to your left, in the left of your photo, who was hobbling around on a 2 month old broken leg. You guys were great neighbors at the shoot. I was glad to make it out to a calguns event for the first time. I hadn't shot for two and a half months, so I was eager to go. I had an awesome time. I wish I was better with names, but I do remember meeting quite a few people and enjoyed hanging out with fellow shooters.

Thank you to Pennys dad, the barbecue crew, and all of the others that helped make this possible. The food was amazing, and the company was welcoming. The weather could not have been better. I would also like to thank iRIGHTi, and the gentleman who loaned me his cleaning rod for giving me a hand with that 223 case separation.

I was exhausted by time I got home from walking up and down that 150+ yard range, but I was able to get up and do it again today.

Today was the Christmas shoot for Shooting Sports Alliance in Norco. We had a potluck lunch and had our usual 6 stages of steel plate shooting. It was a blast for my dad, my brother, my 70+ yearold grandfather, and myself. For me, steel challenge gets my adrenaline going like crazy and I never get bored because there are always new layouts of targets to shoot. If anyone else on calguns is interested in a friendly, steel targeted, obstical couse/competition let me know or watch the forums. We would like to welcome new shooters and advanced shooters alike to a fun and safe venue. We shoot in squads made up of friends or family or anyone else who you would want to shoot in a group with.

Normally on the squads we take turns acting as Range Officer for each other as this keeps it friendly and distributes the responsibilities similar to how our Calguns general shoot was RO'ed by our peers. Potential RO's have to have some competitive past experience with the SSA and be verbally aproved by the leaders of SSA before acting as RO for a squad. For many this just means shooting a steel match a few times to get the hang of the game and to learn the couple steps required to RO someone.

For more info check out the forum, PM me, or visit http://www.ssashooter.net/
I would love to have a CalGuns squad to shoot a steel course with.

Take care everyone, and I look forward to the next Calguns shoot,
Chris

Thanks for the offer. We decided to use the pvc this time because we had a bunch of stands left over from our zombie shoots, intermediate, and advanced courses. We had much less damage during those events. Eventually, we'll be getting metal target stands and then the wood to hold up the target. We hope you had fun at the shoot.

how about i pitch in and make you one
next time use wood its more resilient

HUH! Must have been the scatter guns!!! Actually, I may be responsible for a couple of those 'oops' during the carbine shoot. I couldn’t tell if I was hitting paper or not from downtown. Iron sights, no optics, no excuses. Sorry guys.

I am sorry I missed this. Oddly, I was there with another group and even spoke to someone in the registration line about it.

I'm not sure who you were, my apologies for not asking, but I hope you guys had a blast and hope to join you in the future.

best,
Alan

It was nice to meet you iehooligan. I was commenting to my shooting buddy that you had a great setup of toys. And it is always great that your wife/significant other is also into it.

Actually, if anyone is interested...

I would not mind to run a pistol clinic for the next event. This will focus on safely presenting from the holster as well as accuracy and technique. My focus will be from my own training for CCW as well as Q&A.

Let the admins know if you guys are interested.

Megan and I would be happy to foot the bill for a couple of plastic target stands.

I have 11+ Steel Target Stands that can be staked down so wind is not a factor. (Have a couple more that need minor repairs)

I use these for my USPSA Training Classes but would be happy to lend them out; you just need to supply sticks.

I also have reloads available if needed.

Take Care and have fun...........

Hey guys
I had a great time. :)

I signed up for all 3 courses, but by the time the shotgun course came, i was exhausted...and i wanted to go shoot at the open range w/my buddies. :)

The bbq was fantastic - thanks for everyone who supplied food and drinks. Those ribs were AWESOME!! And there must have been a crapload of chips, since everyone brought some (including myself haha)

Jacob, thanks for organizing this great shoot. my friends and i had an absolute blast.

Tactical Advantage Concepts - thanks for the training and techniques, very useful, handy - i learned a lot. you guys are badass but nice guys overall. ;) I would be more than happy to chip in for new targets too.

I had my camera gear at the shoot, but i was having so much fun that i didn't have a chance to bust it out..i wanted to shoot my guns, not my camera. ahaha

everyone else, it was great to meet you all, and i hope to see you at the next shoot.

In fact, some of us are going to Angeles this Saturday (if they are open). if you want to join, come along!

FYI, i was the big asian guy w/spiky hair and wearing a chest rig during the rifle class.

My room mate and I had a blast.

Thanks for putting this on, glad to meet some of you guys in person(although I've likely forgotten everyone's name except for... Matt?). We were the guys without the EZ-up, shooting the Mosin and the garand and a crap ton of pistols. I hope we didn't bug anyone near us with our rapid fire pistol antics and outrageous laughter.

Regardless, looking forward to our next outing. Next time I'll remember to get there earlier, bring melons or other fruit, and actually partake in the BBQ rather than grab some carne asada and retreat to my gun table.
