Larry Langford found guilty on all counts; no longer Birmingham’s mayor

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - A jury has convicted Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford on federal
charges of accepting bribes, automatically removing him from office.

He was convicted Wednesday of all the counts he faced for accepting cash and luxury items
worth about $236,000 while serving as president of the Jefferson County Commission. In
exchange, he funneled $7.1 million in bond business to a prominent investment banker.

Langford showed no emotion when the verdict was read.

With the felony conviction, he was automatically removed from the office that he won in a
landslide in 2007.

Some of the bond deals made during Langford’s term went sour in the credit crunch last year,
and Jefferson County is now trying to avoid filing the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history
over $3.9 billion in sewer bond debt.

Maybe it can be re-named "ex-Mayors Against Illegal Guns."

Mmm, nope--I still like "Illegal Mayors Against Guns" best.

Heh. Maybe they'll rotate summits between east coast and west coast FedPen facilities.

Guess the mayors should be happy. They'll get to spend lots of time where firearms are prohibited except by police.

Look's like Bloomberg's elitist group is getting smacked down one at a time.

Perhaps he needs to rename the group, Criminal Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Birmingham has had mayors like that for 30 years. Imagine a city council and mayor of all Jesse Jackson clones. They deliberately built housing projects in the middle of the downtown business district to put money in their cronies' pockets and so they can have a hand picked voter base of lowlifes to perpetually reelect them. I lived there for 7 years and it certainly eroded my patience for liberal urban politics and ideology from some infinitesimal fraction above zero to well into the negative four to five digits.

OK, well spotted, perhaps "Criminals Against Legal Firearms" would be better. Then we could jeer them with cries of "Moo!"

The real shame of this is we couldn't divide up that conviction to put 59 of his cohorts in jail with him.

The only slight flaw is that it isn't so much funny as true--but that's what makes it great.

And truly enjoy the "safety" that comes with an unarmed general population..Sounds like justice well served.

See, y'all just don't realize their dedication to the cause.

They're so dedicated to stopping felons getting guns that one of them volunteered to become a felon **just** so they could do sting operations on gun dealers.

;)
