Is it pronounced as "saga" as in your telling a story of some hero's journey

or

is it pronounced as "sega" as in the video game system in the 90's

I thought it was

sah-EE-gah

- 3 syllables, and it is a Russian name so the I would get a little more emphasis. "i" in Russian is pronounced EE.

I heard it was "Sega" like the video game system as well.

сайга=saiga=say-ga=sega literally transliterated. But I hear sy-ga because of the ай vowel cluster. I guess the best way to describe it is "Seyega" the ай sounds a lot like eye.

саига=say-ee-ga

Accent, two syllables.

No accent, three syllables.

Here's an example. In Russian, to say my friend you would say "мой друг" which literally transliterates to "moj droog" (some would write "moy" instead of "moj" but that confuses me because I associate y with the Russian letter ы rather than й). If you want to say my friends you would say "мои друзья" which literally transliterates to "moi druzya" but sounds more like "mo-yee" when it's spoken.

Here's a link to the Russian alphabet that's over on 7.62x54R.net and they have a handy pronunciation guide :-)

Nice. Neither.

sy - gah

(the first syllable is like the "cy" in "cyclone").

That is how it is pronounced in English. As several of the other posters have noted. That mutant looking critter pictured is a Saiga antelope, the thing that the guns are named after. It isn't a Russian loan word. It is merely the name of the animal. Per the San Diego Zoo, it is indeed "sigh-guh".

No need for a consensus. Ruiner and mds2004 have it correct. Watch the video. The company that makes them pronounces it sigh-guh. (That's as close as you can get in Merican-English.)

sigh-guh. If it was meant to be pronounced differently, wouldn't it have been spelled differently in the English translation?
