View Full Version : Storage of Brass

As I was emptying out another 25lb chlorine tablet bucket (this would be the third empty) I said to myself "Self, this would be a great bucket to store brass . . . "
Then I got to thinking . . . even after rinsing, would there be enough residual salt left to cause the brass to corrode?
Most of the brass would be separated into lots in plastic bags and not have direct contact with the sides of the bucket.
Thoughts??

I use the 5 gallon paint buckets you can get from Home Depot for cheap.

why not use hot water and let it sit overnight. that would leech out all the salts if there are any left

As long as you wash it well and baggie the brass, you'll be fine.

PS. It is not salt that corrodes in this case, it is the acidic nature of the tablets (Ph is around 2-3 on the scale)

I use 55gal plastic drums to store brass and 5 gallon buckets to store loaded ammo until I can inspect and pack it.

I would just rinse the daylights out of it and maybe hit it good with some dishsoap. Maybe a garbage bag liner just in case.

Also.. if you can find any of those dessicant bags that come in beef jerky and the like, they help keep the buckets moisture free. Have 5K of new 40sw brass from '07 that is as shiny as the day I poured it in. :)

Ammo cans maybe? Uniform size, stackable, water tight, and available in different sizes.

When you load ammo for a living and buy brass 1,000-2,000lbs at a time, you've got to have a storage system.

Here's a bunch of .380 ammo I loaded in a run today and yesterday. Got about 30,000 rounds shipping out in the next few days.

What contacts do you have to buy 1000's of pounds of brass at a time? Any on the west coast?

My main source is a guy on the East coast that cleans up the government ranges. 90% of my brass is once fired from indoor federal ranges shooting Federal, Speer/CCI, and Winchester brass. Part of the brass comes from Quantico, VA, the FBI academy ranges. I've been in the ammunition manufacturing business for almost 3 years (in January) now. You make contacts where you can. SHOT show will be big for me this year. Expect big changes and possible price drops once again from me. I'm going to try to muscle my suppliers to get me down to $175 for 9mm, $200 for 40, and $225 for 45 for remanufactured ammo, case quantity. I've got primers, powder, and brass on lockdown. It's the bullets prices I'm after.:D

Know a guy selling a Camdex in 38 Spl. Don't have the cash so I told a CA 06 FFL about it. Maybe he can snag it up from the guy. Maybe the FFL can pay me back with a head's up on a deal down the road. Competitors are competitors, but I'll still give a heads up if I know somthing I can't take advantage of.

Let me know your futures and I can work with it.

I would give up all of my rifles for a camdex that loads .223

And, Just a question, Do you sell any ammo to any calguners?

I thought about building my own reloader, Like a camdex but with changable heads.
