That is nice. Just gave me an idea.

Can you ask your buddy if he is willing to do another one? I'll pay as long as it is reasonable. Thanks.

Is that a flat top a4 upper? Thinking about getting a flat top instead of the a2 attached carry handle.

Charliegone,

Yup, that's a flattop with carry handle attached.

Is that just a fake magazine on the bottom?

What's the point? Just to look "cool", "bad", or "tactical"?

No, it's a real mag that's been cut and attached to look like a 30 rounder is insterted in a mag well, and yes it's there for looks. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Not exactly true. Some people use the mag for front hand positioning. I used to shoot that way until I bought a vertical foregrip.

Given a choice between the no mag look and the one with the mag, which would you take?

At least it looks like a real AR, I would definitely take it with the mag. "cool", "bad"? no not really, just so it looks like a real one.

Looking good, now your friend just needs to glue on a mag release button.http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://www.calguns.net/banghead.gif Sometimes I have a hard time believing what gun owners in this state are reduced to. That is the hair extension of the ammunition feeding devices. That's the prosthetic testicle of rifle magazines.
I understand some of the reasons why your friend did it, but this is just sad.

Any input as to how he did this? It appears that the fake mag is screwed into place - perhaps a wooden block is glued or somehow fixed to the bottom, then the fake mag is screwed onto that?

I'll ask him when he gets into work today. By the way... I'm pretty sure it's NOT a real AR15 mag. I double check that too!

it's a T68 mag from a paintball marker designed to look like a AR15. He's working a full time job while owning & operating a seperate business... so he's a little too busy to help anyone do the setup, plus he doesn't have his FFL yet! but I'm working on him to get that done! http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I can't even get him out to the range with our odd schedules.

He mentioned he tried to mimic this system? which I know nothing about:

That Fab10 AR15 is mine.

For those who I think I did a good job on it, thanks.

For those who think it's a sad attempt, whatever, it's sad when people take for granted the things they have but others don't, and when those unfortunate people try hard to get what they couldn't have, the people who had it all think it's a joke to them.

For those who wants one, sorry I won't be making another one. It was a pain making it. But I'll see if I can improve the process of modding it

For those who wondering why I did it, first is to make it look right, like an M4, which is apparently what I'm trying to make it look like; second is to make it easier to handle, but for the most part, it's the look.

For those who wondering how I did it, let just say I have the resource and enough patient to spend hours on end. The mag is not a real 30rnds AR mag, but it's a steel mag and very close to a real mag.

I'm not trying to advertise or anything but here's where I get my stuff from http://rap4.com and that's my business, well, part of.

So you won't share with us exactly HOW you did it?

I can guess.. but I'm curious how you did it - because if you tap into your FAB10 receiver, you void the warranty.

El Rojo from Thehighroad.org did something like this too.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65714

Couldn't you just have used one of those 30 round mag bodies?

What I did is similar to the guy who used the wooden block http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=65714&page=2&pp=25, but intead of using the wooden block, I cut the end of another mag and fabricated to make it fit inside the first mag, and then drilled and tapped into the receiver just like he did. So I used no glue or wood, just set screws to hold it together very tightly and sturdy. I can hold the gun sideway by the mag without any problem. For warranty, I don't think it matters much to me. The Fab10 receiver has pretty good quality and I don't think anything could go wrong with it unless you really damage it if you don't know what you're doing.

I'll sneak a peak the next time we go to the range together http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

by the way... "void the warranty"? I've been buying stuff for the past 25 years with warranties... I can't recall ever having to use one of them? besides, he's pretty mechanical http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

could also be why he didn't post it... didn't want to take any blame for someone messing up their fab10?

Remember... I posted his AR mod, he didn't have any say in the matter because I thought it looked cool. Don't get mad at him, get mad at me. He wasn't happy that he missed out on getting a real one (even though I told him years ago)... he's a gun guy now and he runs a company that's based on the M4 platform, he wanted a real AR15 that looked like the fake AR15's he works with everyday. The Fab 10 doesn't cut it. But a Fab 10 that looks like a AR15 or M4 is the best he/we can get.
He spent a lot of time=money making himself feel better, if he doesn't want to share he doesn't have too... I SHARED his work with calguns to show what a little imagination can get you. (Turbinator, this isn't directed at you persay) http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Wow! I didn't know my project was psuedo-famous. Yes, it is a feel good project. I hardly ever have it on there, but I just wanted to be able to make it look like a real rifle now and then.

When we are talking about letters and warranties, what we are really talking about is CADOJ approval. All of the FAB-10s come with an approval letter. By drilling holes in the bottom of our guns, we might have voided that letter. I personally am not worried about it because it is a centerfire rifle with a fixed magazine, so it is not covered by SB-23. If the AG wants to add FAB-10s with fake magazine attachments to the list, then lets take it to court and I will challenge it. My guess is no one cares.

Well at least great minds think alike. I brought this project up with the FAB-10 people and asked if he would be interested in making the "storage device attachment" something they can offer on the rifles, but he wasn't interested because he would have to go through the letter process again.

Someday I will put a fake 20 rounder on there, but it has lost priority.

I don't care much about that DOJ letter either, it's good to have just in case the police ever question the legality, but I've had it for a couple years and all the ranges I went to, here in the Bay Area never ever ask me about the letter.

For the 20 rounders, there's another solution: http://calguns.net/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/332609466/m/27110506321 it sounds interesting and you don't have to make a fake 20rnds mag.
