Vacaville police and fire department personnel rushed to a popular gun store and shooting range Friday afternoon after a report of a shooting.

Just after 5 p.m., Vacaville police dispatch got the call that a person at Guns Fishing & Other Stuff on Butcher Road had been shot.

Police arrived to find a Vallejo male in his early 20s suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Officer Mark Donaldson.

According to police, the victim walked in, showed identification and rented a small-caliber handgun prior to the shooting, which took place in the business' underground shooting range.

The victim was airlifted by CALSTAR air ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. His condition was unavailable at press time.

Suicide attempt or just an accident, plus I thought ranges didnt rent guns to individuals?

Crazy. I was going to stop in there last night about then and shoot but I had a FTE and didn't had a chance to get the casing out yet before I was driving by.

Wouldn't be the first suicide by rental.

Hopefully they don't institute Target Masters-like rental policies where you have to jump through a bunch of hoops to rent a gun, and it just sucks for everyone.

It never even occurred to me that people would commit suicide at a range. That must really, really suck for range owners to have to deal with stuff like that!

I only wonder because I go in there from time to time. Not to shoot, but to purchase.
