They don't report it! :chris:

Serious assaults being dismissed as 'no crimes' by police (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/6406236/Serious-assaults-being-dismissed-as-no-crimes-by-police.html)

Violent assaults and domestic attacks are being wrongly disregarded by police who are recording them as "no crime", a watchdog has revealed.

Thousands of incidents of serious violence are being written off by officers when they should be properly investigated, the Chief Inspector of Constabulary said.

Denis O'Connor suggested chasing Government targets could be partly to blame for the "perverse incentive" of not recording some incidents as crimes.

The damaging review in to how police record offences will cast a shadow over the latest official crime statistics (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/6405239/Burglaries-robberies-and-thefts-increase-show-Government-figures.html), also published today, which show a rise in robberies, burglaries and thefts, further fuelling concerns of a recession crime wave.

The police inspectorate found one in three decisions to record a violent incident as no crime were wrong...

I'm told NYC is the same way. They'll do anything to present their image as being a "safe city" as if there were such a thing.

Just goes to show the real motives of police. Their definition of "safety" is probably a lot different than yours or mine.

Well it's also interesting in that there is near on to to total firearm prohibition in the UK, yet violent crime using firearms (which is pretty hard to ignore or brush away) continues to rise year over year and is approaching epidemic proportions. Non-firearm violent street crime has been spiraling out of control as well.

So taking all that into account, it certainly seems to make some sense that some local police forces would try to smooth the data in order to continue to advance the utopian agenda as successful.

Lots of big U.S. cities have been doing this for years. Massaging the numbers and reducing felonies to misdemeanors in an attempt create the image that crime is on the decrease.
It apparently happens most often when there is a pending mayoral election or new police chief. The "New Sheriff In Town" syndrome.

More guns is the solution in the end.
If only they would get their heads out of their azzes and realize that CCW issuance to qualified citizens can help as well.

I guess it boils down to "what level of safety you are comfortable with", me I live in the desert where there are lots of open mine shafts and very few criminals. It's amazing how intimidating a couple of hints and a wink can be when the punk you are winking at believes you are crazy.

(we are in off topic right?)
